NATHAN "NATE" ELBAUM

Born February 17, 1914 in Dubuque, Iowa and he passed away April 12, 2010. He moved to Chicago as a youth, and in 1938 he married the first love of his life, Frances Glick, who predeceased him when she passed away in 1985. In 1986 he was blessed to marry the second great love of his life, the former Rose Bass, with whom he lived very happily in North Hollywood until he passed. He initially moved to California in 1943 and for the remainder of World War II he volunteered for the US Navy and served until the war was ended and he returned to California. After leaving the Navy, Nate had two lengthy careers in purchasing, for many years as a principal in Norlac Engineering and then with Ideal Metals. He was active for several decades in both B'nai Brith and the Masons. After he retired, Nate Elbaum launched a new career as a volunteer and along with his wife Rose was active on behalf of the Veterans Hospital in Sepulveda, Encino Hospital, the Jewish War Veterans and the City of Hope. In 2003 he was honored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for his volunteer work, which continued until he was 94. There was never a day in his life when he didn't do some selfless act to help others. Nate is survived by his widow Rose Bass-Elbaum, his two daughters (Dr. Miriam Dexter and Eve Williams) his two sons-in-law (Greg Dexter and Steve Williams), his two former sons-in-law (Alan Robbins and Phil Hudis), his six grandchildren (Jacob Robbins, Leah Robbins, Aaron Hudis , Cathy Hudis, Michael Williams and Matthew Williams), his four great-grandchildren (Alicia Hudis, Hayden Hudis, Gavin Williams and Paige Williams) and his niece (Maureen Bright) and her family. He is also survived b y the son and daughter of his widow: Adrienne Bass and Jeff Bass, and Jeff's wife Michelle and children Marshall and Leah, with all of whom he enjoyed a special relationship. Though he was in failing health, Nate was able to celebrate his 96th birthday in February with all of his family members. After he passed on his family gathered on April 17th for a celebration of his life. His time on earth could best be summed up by one simple statement: every person he met in his life thought of Nate as one of the nicest people each of them had ever met.
