Roy Ingebrigtsen Obituary

Born December 23, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, entered Heaven on March 11, 2011 in West Hills, California, after complications due to Parkinsons Disease. Roy was born in Minnesota and spent the first 12 years of childhood with his grandparents. His mother brought him to California in 1937. He enlisted in the Army at age 17 and after WWII went to USC on the GI Bill. He became a teacher for LAUSD and spent the next 35 years as a principal and later as an administrator. He married the love of his life Anne in 1960 and had four children, Erik, Kristin, Alison and Matt. Roy and Anne took many vacations all over the United States after retirement, but Roy loved coming home to his family most of all. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Somers; and his brother, Don Ingebrigtsen. Roy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anne; his four children, Erik Ingebrigtsen (Denise), Kristin Bradley (Mark), Alison Siewert (George) and Matt Ingebrigtsen (Erica); and eight grandchildren, Steven, Jessica, Kyle, Jake, Kristin, Forest, Jack and Liv. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his honesty and his integrity. He was a wonderful husband and the best father any child could ask for. Our hearts are broken over our loss but we know that Heaven is overjoyed by its gain. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mel Catholic Church in Woodland Hills. Burial following at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Operation Gratitude (www.OperationGratitude.com) or the Salvation Army (email: [email protected]).

Dr. Ingerbrigtsen was the principal of my elementry school, Lanai Road School in Encino, Ca. in the late '60's and early '70's. I have never forgotten him. Though he was an imposing figure of a man at 6'5" or so (we were sure he was at least 8 feet tall) he was the most soft spoken and gentle school principal imaginable. I remember particularly his handling of the terrible tragedies of the spring of 1968, the assignations of King and RFK. He was told us that it had left a great void in our society, but that we would be OK. I was only 8 years old, but I remember being reassured. I'm glad to hear he lived a long full life.

Roy was a good listener, intelligent, and full of humor. I enjoyed his visits with our family in Arizona. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

This is me:)
