STERLING MORRIS Obituary

APRIL 25, 1917 - APRIL 30, 2011 Born April 25, 1917 in Bolivar, Missouri, to Charles R. Loyd and Maud Sterling Loyd. He passed away peacefully at age 94, on April 30, 2011 in Caldwell, Idaho. At age 19, Morris came to California. He started working at North American Aviation where he worked on P-51 Mustangs being sent to England. Throughout the war he worked on airplanes, and in the 1950s he worked on rocket engines. Three patents are held in his name and he was recognized for his many achievements by NASA and USAF. Hiking, camping and fishing were his favorite leisure time activities, especially in the Eastern Sierra. Morris was married to Alice Cartwright, the love of his life, for 67 years until she preceded him in death in 2009. A member of "The Greatest Generation," Morris is survived by his four children: son Richard "Tom" (Debbie) Loyd, daughters Linda (Richard) Vrana, Laura Loyd and Sally Loyd; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all. Services to be held on Saturday May 7, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, CA 90301.
