Thomas Anthony Sydes

1941 - 2015

Tom "Anthony" grew up as a child actor in North Hollywood, California with his mother and father, Ruth and Thomas William, his sisters, Carol and Debbie, and his brother Jonathan. Tom was credited with 34 acting roles to include: Miracle on 34th Street, Sitting Pretty, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Shadow on the Wall, Claudia and David, The Song of Love and the Unique Playhouse 90, "Our Town" with Frank Sinatra.

Tom attended North Hollywood High School, graduating in 1958. He attended UCLA, finished college in Oklahoma, and went on to receive his masters in Virginia.

In service to his country, Tom enlisted in the Army in 1963. He attended Officer Candidate School, served two tours in Vietnam and tours in Italy and Germany. Tom was a decorated combat veteran with Bronze Stars, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Silver Star, Commendation Medals with Valor, Air Medals, National Defense Service Medal and a Purple Heart. He retired with 20 years of service.

After retiring from Military Service, Tom started an auction business, A&A Auction Gallery in Santa Cruz, California. With his keen eye and acting ability, it became a most successful business that is still operating today. He also started an auction college to train future auctioneers and was a member of the National Auctioneers Association. Tom was also involved with real estate development in North Carolina and Southern California.

Tom is survived by his three children: Elise, Tom Jr. and Tiffany. He is a grandfather to nine grandchildren. He was married to Ann, the mother of his children, for 30 years.

A memorial will be held at the Sydes residence in Studio City on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 5:00 PM.

The family will be holding private services with internment to be at Arlington National Cemetery; date to be determined.
