Alexander Sirpis Obituary

Born in Portland, Maine, Alex had lived in Rancho Bernardo since 1971. Alex served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 through 1970, active in WWII, the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam.
After his retirement from the Marines, Alex and his wife, Catherine, moved to San Diego where he immediately became active in his community of Rancho Bernardo. In 1978 he was named to the RB Hall of Fame due to his involvement in Westwood Club Board of Directors, Pomerado Hospital Auxiliary, the RSVP (senior police volunteers), VFW (charter member), and RB Anglers Club. In 1985 he was named to the RB Sports Hall of Fame for his leadership as a coach for Pop Warner Football and as "umpire extraordinaire" for many years. People in the community have seen him as president of the Spirit of the Fourth Committee, actively serving in Los Rancheros Kiwanis (especially flipping pancakes), Westwood Men's Club (chief of the barbeque), RB Joslyn Senior Center volunteer, playing golf at Oaks North Golf Club, member of the Military Order of the World Wars, and member of St. John of Damascus Orthodox Church.
Alex is survived by his wife, Catherine; son, Andrew; daughters, Melanie and Marilyn; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Alex has been laid to rest at the Riverside National Cemetery. The family has asked that to honor the memory of Alex, donations may be given to: RB Community Foundation, c/o Youth Activities, PO Box 270744, San Diego, CA 92198.
