Daniel Alessio Obituary

Daniel D. Alessio, real estate investor, died suddenly on December 23, 2009, in La Jolla. He was 45.
A native San Diegan, Mr. Alessio was the son of Frank and Linda Alessio of La Jolla. He married Trish Seiter, the love of his life, in November 1996. He attended Patrick Henry High School and later Arizona State University, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and earned a Bachelor's degree from the W. P. Carey School of Business. During his senior year, he interned for California Senator Pete Wilson in Washington D.C.
Soon after graduating from ASU, Mr. Alessio began what would become an exceptional commercial real estate career at CB Richard Ellis. At a young age, he was awarded the 'Rookie of the Year' for CBRE in San Diego County and spent the next seven years as one of the top producers in San Diego and the western US. "Dan had an uncommon entrepreneurial spirit and integrity that not only brought success for himself and his partners but had the ability to maintain long lasting positive relationships with all he came in contact with." said Bob Burke, former Managing Partner at CB Richard Ellis.
In 1995 Mr. Alessio left CB Richard Ellis and founded Alessio Partners, a San Diego based real estate investment company. Over the next 15 years, Mr. Alessio invested in a wide range of projects throughout the United States, but was perhaps best known for his expertise and success in the shopping center industry. He enjoyed strong relationships and respect throughout the commercial real estate and retail industries, working closely with well known investors including Sol Price of the Price Club and leading retailers including Safeway, Costco, Albertson's and many others both on a national and local scale. Mr. Alessio was a member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
In addition to his success as a real estate investor, Mr. Alessio was also very active in philanthropic activities. He was a member of the San Diego International Sports Council and San Diego Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Association. Dan and his wife Trish have been generous supporters of Rady Children's Hospital for many years, and have been unwavering members of the hospital's Children's Circle of Care. Dan and Trish were co-chairs of the 2005 Miracle Makers Gala. "Dan's devotion to Trish and their children was clear and always evident. A brilliant businessman, always quick with a smile and a compliment, he was a passionate and effective community leader who will be missed greatly. San Diego has lost one of its best." said David B. Gillig, Senior Vice President and Executive Director at Rady Children's Hospital.
Mr. Alessio also served on the Board of Directors of United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego for six years. During his tenure he served as the agency's treasurer and head of the finance committee. Mr. Alessio chaired the annual giving campaign and served on the committee for the agency's annual golf tournament. Dave Carucci, Executive Director of UCP San Diego, describes Mr. Alessio as "a good son, brother, husband and father and of course, a solid friend." He was also involved with the Beach and Country Guild, which supports United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego and The First Tee of San Diego, which promotes golf for inner city kids.
An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, Mr. Alessio was a longstanding member of La Jolla Country Club. Dan will be remembered for his love of family, sharp wit and zest for life. He is survived by his wife, Trish; daughters, Abigail and Elizabeth; son, Danny Jr; brother, Marco and his wife Kim; nephew, Matthew; niece, Alexandra; and father, Frank.
A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at The Immaculata on the campus of the University of San Diego. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego or the Cerebral Palsy program at Rady Children's Hospital in memory of Daniel D. Alessio.

Still can´t believe Dan isn´t out there, making deals, rooting for the Padres, grinning with that laugh of his - usually at his own humor- making this world a better place for those of us lucky enough to call him a dear friend.Think of you often "Daniel D". Love to you and your sweet amazing mama, until we meet again.

I just found out about Danny's passing from a friend over the weekend. I am still in shock. He was a few years older than I growing up in Del Cerro, but he was such a role model even back then. I wish you and the entire family my condolences and may god continue to give you strength with each passing day.

Good morning, Trisha. You don't know me, I was one of the huge crowd gathered at the cathedral to say goodbye to Danny. I admit to dropping more than a single tear, mostly for you and the family. For me, personally, I now laugh and remember your husband. I was Danny's Pony league baseball coach. Danny was one of the youngest on the team, a veritable squirt amongst some very large young men. Yes...he was a little dude. I think that his main role on the team was to make everyone laugh (a lot). He was also a fine baseball player. The "Tigers" were a great team, and we made it to the championship game. Unfortunately our ace player was hurt the night before and we needed to shuffle our lineup. I moved Danny to shortstop (emphasis on short), the field was hard as a rock. I lost track of how many balls hit in his direction hopped over his head. He tried so damn hard. We lost the game (barely) but there was lots and lots of laughter and smiles; led by the indomitable Danny humor. Some years later, at a Del Mar charity function, a young man who was at least a foot taller than me came up to say hello. Lot's of laughter there, as well. I was now the squirt compared to Danny. Trish, I hope that you and your fine children have found the laughter. It is there, trust me.

Trish, How many times have I stopped suddenly glancing up to see a man crossing the street, or walked behind a great looking guy and whispered, "oh my god, that's Danny..." Then I remember and cry a little and wonder how you are.
Would love to help with the girls sometime - haven't met your beautiful son yet.

Trish,
I just read all the posts, I can not believe it. I saw your Dad and Karen at Molina's the other day and they asked if I had spoke to you. When I said it had been a year or so, they told me about Dan. Trish, all I could picture in my head was your wedding day and your beautiful smile. My heart is breaking for you and your children. I miss you old friend and I hope in time you find peace and happiness again. You have an angel guiding you, come to Houston soon. I love you sweet friend.

I was a neighbor of Danny's when I was in elementary school. His entire family was lovely. Danny was always so kind and thoughtful. There was such a warmth to his smile. I think he took care of our dog when we went on vacation. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family members. I did not stay in touch with him over the years, but based on what I knew about him as a child, I'm certain he bacame an amazing man - and this is evident by all of the posts. May his spirit live of in each of you.

Hi Trish,

I am a friend of Marco and Kims from USD and knew Danny also. I ran into him the other day walking the dog and found out you like a block away. I lost my husband to a motorcycle accident 7 years ago. My kids were 11 and 12. It was such a hard time in my life, very challenging to say the least. If you ever want to chat please call me. Marco or Kim have my number. Be strong Trish and my prayers are with you.

Dan was always a leader and full of energy. Although its been many years since I have seen him, ASU and brother in Sigma Nu, , His Bio I read was nothing short of amazing and truly showed that he continued to lead as well as give and I am sure touched many lives. Dear Trish, children and the Alessio family,

I was shocked to hear this tragic news regarding Dan. I knew Dan while we attended ASU. I will never forget Dan as he was one of my big brothers of Sigmu Nu. He was the second man I met at during rush week back in 1985! His bright smile, (perfect teeth) and jet black hair - a magnetic personality. I can only imagine the husband, father and gift to the San Diego community that he had become. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you slowly walk throught each day. May God Bless you and keep you safe. Until you meet up with him again in the future.

Sorrow swept through many of LaJolla's restaurants with the news of Danny's passing. Danny and the entire family have shared their love of food, wine and life with so many restaurant folk that it was much more than losing a customer, it was like losing some of the joy we get from our work. Barbarella, Piatti, and The Cottage are all feeling a tremendous loss. Danny's joy in life made him a real pleasure to serve. Our hearts go out to the entire Alessio family.

Dear Alessio Family,
Our thoughts and prayer are with you. I was shocked and saddened at the news of Danny's sudden passing. I remember Danny from Lewis, PHHS, and Del Cerro. It seemed that he was always smiling. He had a specialness about him. When others were not so kind, he was ALWAYS kind. May you find peace knowing he is with God, and knowing he is with you always through his love. May God keep you close during this time.

Our prayers are with you all.

Dearest Trish, Abby, Ellie, Danny, Frank, Marco, and the entire Alessio family,

We were shocked and so saddened by Danny's sudden passing. The seemingly random cruelty of life sometimes feels like more than we can bear. To lose both Linda and Danny in a single year seems especially cruel. We know the substance of your extraordinary family and that, with the passing of time, their legacy will be carried out brilliantly.

None of us will ever forget Danny's dazzling smile and infectious positive nature. We can honor him by being as generous with our spirit as he was.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

The world needs more men like Daniel D. Alessio. Daniel embodied the spirit of sharing one's God-given talents to the betterment of those around him, and society as a whole.

My most sincere condolences to his cherished family, and also my respect and gratitude for sharing Daniel's story with the world. May you find just a small incremental amount of solace from knowing Daniel's story impacted a total stranger (myself).

Dear Trish & the Alessio Family:

First and foremost I would like to express both my and my family's sympathy and love for your whole family. Danny has been my closest friend for the past 38 years and a void will be left in my life that can never be filled. I can't imagine the pain that each of you are enduring, but I pray that you will take comfort in how much he loved each of you and how much he was loved.

I have been speaking with friends of Danny's from our teenage years and the devastation they are feeling (even though many haven't been in regular contact in years) is a testament to Danny's impact on anyone he came in touch with. Many feel blessed to have seen him at my B-day party in May and to see his smile, talk with him and see how happy he was to have such a beautiful and sweet wife along with 3 children that meant the world to him.

Please know that your whole family have constantly been in our thoughts and that I am available for you and your kids now and in the future.

Dear Trish and the entire Alessio Family,

My most heart felt condolences go out to each and every one of you.

I first met “Danny” in the fourth grade at an all sports summer school program. He had a zip and zest and exuberance for life that was already evident at that very young age. He had a kind sparkle in his eye that always stayed with him.

We will hold you in our hearts and prayers as you endure this sorrowful loss of your husband, father, brother, friend and son.

In peace and love,
Ruth (Tabor) & Richard Antonorsi and boys

It has been a little over a week since Dan’s passing and I am still numb and barley able to grasp the reality of our loss. While true, Dan was an amazing Husband, Father, Brother, Son and all-around incredible man, he will always remain in my heart “Cousin Danny”.

His kind giving heart and infectious smile touched us all and his love of family will never be forgotten. He lived by example and the light of his spirit shined upon us constantly.

Uncle Frank, Marco & Trish, my heart is so heavy for you and the kids that I am finding it extremely difficult to put into words the tremendous loss and sadness I / We all feel. I can only hope that right now Danny is looking down upon us with all our family that has gone before us, sitting around the table with a big bowl of Nanu’s pasta and a glass of Diego Red, telling stories of when we were young and holding a place for us when it comes our time.

God Bless you always

It has been 6 days since I heard the terrible news of losing Danny, and I still cannot believe it. He brightened many days in my life, for several years, and the thought of him being gone makes the world a sadder place today. To Trish, Abbey, Ellie and Danny, Jr., Dan will live on in each of you. God Bless you, Frank, Marco and the rest of the Alessio family.

Dear Trish,
We are stunned by Dan's sudden passing and are praying, praying, praying for all of you....
I so clearly remember Hannah's surprise birthday party last May when you sang "Boots" with such swagger and fun surrounded by all the party girls and boys... Dan's face held a look of abject adoration and unabashed love for you during the entire song. Yours is a bond that surpasses this life and will remain alive as you continue to raise your beautiful family. Please accept our sincere condolences.
With love, Pete, Ellen, Kate & Jake Heraty

What a terrible loss. Dan was a great guy! Although I have not seen Dan for years, I have many fond memories of Dan while attending ASU as a Sigma Nu brother.

Trish,

Spring ’84: Dan taught me how to seize the most out of each day and I will never forget the impact he had on my life.

I remain saddened and in disbelief over the news of his passing and wish there were words I could send to help.

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

"Little" Danny played shortstop and every other position imaginable for a Pony League team we coached. His heart for the game and teammates was huge. We all laughed more than anything else.

I cannot imagine a life lived more fully in such a short time. Danny's family will be in our prayers. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.

Our hearts break for you and the children. What a huge loss for all. Dan was just such a great guy, it's is so hard to comprehend. We will always hold dear the times we had with you and Dan and when we raise a glass of fine wine, we will remember his generosity and joy of life. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." What other guy would share his Chargers tickets with a Steelers fan? I will always remember him fondly.
Love, Carolann and Don
