John Perry Obituary

John Michael Perry
October 21, 1943 - July 11, 2022
La Jolla
John Michael Perry passed away July 11, 2022 after a brief illness at the age of 79.
Born a twin on October 21, 1943 in Calexico, California to Nora Seiglitz Perry and Archie Everett Perry, John spent his early childhood in both the warm deserts of Yuma, Arizona and the beautiful coastal cliffs of La Jolla, California.
His last year of high school brought other adventures as he headed to Seminole, Oklahoma with his twin sister Patty, to live on their grandmother's working cattle ranch. There he attended Bowleg High school and later, the University of Oklahoma with his sister, receiving his degree in Pharmacy in 1965. Following graduation, he gained certification by the state of California and headed back to his home town of La Jolla to begin his professional life as a pharmacist.
The 1960s brought change to many people's lives and John was not exempt from the events of the day. Drafted during the Vietnam War, he served as a pharmacist at a military installation in Southern Germany with an Army Special Forces group! Visited there in 1969 by his sister, he gifted her a Gustav Becker clock, beginning his lifelong interest in antique clocks. His time in Germany was also the beginning of a love of travel and he traveled all over Europe while stationed there. After leaving the service, he settled back in La Jolla, his favorite city, and established his permanent home. His love of travel continued, however, with occasional trips to exotic locations such as Istanbul, Turkey.
John had a keen interest in the real estate market and was a skilled equities investor, actively buying and selling stocks. He was a frequent early morning fixture at Harry's coffee shop, eating his breakfast and having a cup of coffee before heading off to the La Jolla public library to review investment favorites like the Wall Street Journal. An avid swimmer, John also enjoyed early morning workouts at the Mission Valley YMCA and was a longtime member.
Preceded in death by his parents and older brother Archie E. Perry III, John's surviving family includes his twin sister Patricia Perry Sinex and her two sons Jon Sinex and Michael Sinex. John will be laid to rest in the bluffs overlooking the beautiful mountain town of Durango, Colorado in the family burial plot, next to the plot reserved for his sister.
John did not desire a service, but his family would like to thank all who knew and shared a friendship with him!

Always having good coffee in hand or walking the streets of La Jolla Village, I've known John for 7 years. June 25th I helped him by fixing his printer, but he did not mention that he was ill. I'm sad to learn of his passing in the La Jolla Light. If there is a family member who can share information with me, I would appreciate it.
