Lynde McCormick Obituary

Lynde D. McCormick III passed away on December 27, 2014, in Denver, CO. He was the grandson of U.S. Navy Four-Star Admiral Lynde Dupuy McCormick, namesake of the Guided-Missile Destroyer USS LYNDE MCCORMICK, based in the Port of San Diego during her 30 year war career.
Lynde was born on March 26, 1950, in Annapolis, MD, to U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Lynde D. McCormick Jr. and Reid Lazenby McCormick. He was raised in Annapolis in his early years until the family moved to La Jolla, CA. He graduated from Principia College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He met his wife and future business partner, Andrea Jenks, in college. They were married for forty-one years.
McCormick's illustrious career included 25 years of business journalism in print, TV and radio in Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong, followed by 17 entrepreneurial years, owning and operating three businesses in New York City. He was business editor for the Christian Science Monitor and the Rocky Mountain News; and an on-air reporter for Monitor TV and Radio with his own show, Business by Lynde. McCormick was business news anchor for CNBC Asia in Hong Kong. In a career change, Lynde's entrepreneurial ventures included opening The Han Horse, a Chinese antiques gallery in Manhattan, which he partnered with his wife. He also owned and operated two restaurants, the acclaimed Brooklyn Label in Green point, Brooklyn and Café Jax on the Upper East Side. Lynde remarked about his business ventures, "Our philosophy has been that when someone walks through the door, the goal is not to sell them something, but to make them want to come back."
Lynde is survived by his wife, Andrea Jenks McCormick; daughter, Jennifer Lee; son, Christian Lynde, daughter-in-law ,Elizabeth Marie; and grandson, Brandon Lynde; father, Lynde D. McCormick Jr.; step-mother, Margaret McCormick; sister, Virginia Reid McCormick, and her children, Emily Reid Kehe, Spencer Hopkins Kehe and Mitchell Andrew Kehe.

Went to La Jolla Country Day school with Lynde in the mid-'60s. He was a nice chap. He didn't finish HS there ... so I lost track of whereabouts. Sorry to hear of his passing. My best to his family...
