Murray Algee Warmath Jr.
, age 81, died peacefully at home in La Jolla, California, on October 5, 2021.Murray was born in Mississippi to homemaker Mary Louise (Clapp) Warmath and football coach Murray Algee Warmath Sr. When he was 14, Murray's family moved to Minnesota, where his dad became head football coach of the University of Minnesota Gophers. Murray graduated from Edina High School and undergraduate and medical school at the University of Minnesota. While in medical school, Murray married Kathryn Kirkman, and they had two children, Barbara Warmath Derthick and Paul Warmath. After medical school, Murray moved to Los Angeles for an internship and then to Texas, where he was drafted into the Vietnam War. In Vietnam, Murray served as an Air Force medic, rising to the rank of captain. After returning from Vietnam, he and his family settled in La Jolla, California. Murray worked at Scripps Clinic as a radiologist for 38 years until he retired in 2014. He enjoyed tennis, golf, competitive bridge, and wine sampling on many trips with friends and his wife of 34 years, Patricia. He was known for throwing large parties, especially on Christmas Eve. Murray is predeceased by his sister Carol Dillow (Dick) and brother Bill. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia Warmath, children Barbara (Steve) and Paul, grandchildren Ian, Anna, Joel, and Ava, and a great-grandson.
