Dan was a very special person in more than one way. He was one of the most caring souls I ever met, very selfless and always ready to help. Always there when you needed him. Dan was a great role model, he taught my daughter that being on a wheelchair doesn´t limit what you can do or define who you are. Now, thanks in part to his great example, she is out there making her mark on the world! Dan you will be sorely missed! Prayers for him and his family!

I lived in the same neighborhood as Dan for many years and he was always so incredibly nice to me whenever I happened to run into him. I think everyone should be kind just like Dan was. My love goes out to his family and friends.

It has taken me a few days to find the words to say. For many years I worked with Dan. Some of my favorite days would be when he came in just to say good morning or just a hello. It always came with a big smile. He brought tons of smiles and laughter. I am so sorry for your loss.

I’m very saddened to hear of Dan’s passing.
I taught at Sally Potter School and that’s where I first met Danny. He was the cutest and sweetest boy even back then.
We both started at D46 about the same year and became colleagues. I can’t tell you how proud I was of his accomplishments. Every year I’d bump into him somewhere opening day of school in D46, at Dominick’s where he was talking to Lee, at Jewel, and a number of other spots around town. He always had a smile on his face and a story to share. He took the time to talk and ask how you were. He was genuinely a kind and caring person that will be missed by so many lives he impacted. My sympathies to the Furlan Family, his friends and students.

Too young. Smart. Knew Danny from Third Lake visiting his relatives years ago. Always stopped him when I met him rolling through Menards. Enjoyed our conversations. Last saw him at Ravinia. My condolences to the Furlan family. Danny will be missed.

I want to offer my sincerest condolences to the entire Furlan family for losing such a wonderful family member and to the world for losing such a beautiful human being. Everyone Dan met was lucky to know him.
I am so sorry I will not be able to attend his service to celebrate his life with you all. Please just know that I knew Dan as an extremely focused and attentive listener who made you feel like the only person in the room when you spoke. He also had such a great sense of humor and even got a lot of my jokes.
I will never forget Dan Furlan, Jr. and his soul will live on in many hearts.

It breaks my heart to hear of Dan´s passing. While I haven´t seen him in a while, back in the day, I lived in a community where his best friend, Lee lived. We all got to be good friends and spent many hours playing that game with the dominoes. I forgot the name of it!
Dan always wore a smile and had a kind, gentleness about him. I don´t know how many times I cried on his shoulder.
My heart goes out to Dan´s family, friends, and the students that were so lucky to have him as a teacher.
Rest in heavenly peace, Dan.

I met Dan when I began working at Grayslake Middle School in 2004. For 8 of those years we worked closely on Team 7 Green where I taught History and he assisted in my classroom. Ahh, those were the days. The team shared so many laughs and good times. Not just at school, but at excursions to Bill's Pub for pizzas and beers and to Timothy O'Tooles for karaoke to name a couple. In the classroom, he was good at anticipating what was needed next and would interject interesting facts with his knowledge of history. He was great at working with those kids that struggled the most. So often we talked about music and that would always lead to our shared love of the Beatles. We would burn each other cd's and see if we could stump each other with Beatles trivia. Dan, you will be missed. Earth's cry; heaven's smile.

Furlan Family and Friends –
My deepest condolences in the loss of Dan. He was most certainly one of the greatest souls I have had the pleasure of knowing.
I met Dan in high school. He was always just a super nice guy with a big smile. Over the years, the impact he made on so many is profound and amazing. He had such a huge heart and never met anyone he didn’t call friend. His character was kind, patient, loving, and genuine. I know Dan faced many challenges in his life But he always rose above with a positive attitude and generous spirit. There are many people in this world that would say, “Why me?” But Dan had the attitude of, “Why not me?” He met each challenge with a headstrong attitude and that great, big smile. I am sure there were times he was frustrated by his circumstance, but it never held him down for long. Throughout his life, he made a huge impact on those that were blessed to have known him From his family and friends to coworkers and students Dan will be forever remembered for his beautiful, open heart.
I will truly miss his morning Facebook posts wishing everyone a great day. It was something I could count on Someone out there in the world wishing me a good day and some positive energy. Gosh, and all his music posts. Dan was a lot like me One song leads to another And soon you are down a rabbit hole of songs you haven’t thought of in years. And of course, his many food posts He sure liked trying out some new things.
Prayers for peace and comfort to everyone at this difficult time. Dan left a huge empty space in this life that can’t be filled.
Rest easy my sweet friend. We will meet again one day in a Heaven of no sickness, no pain, and never, ever a goodbye.

Dan was a pleasure to chat with always having a positive spin on things, even everyday happenings. He was ready to help, whatever was needed at the moment, to talk things out, to simply listen, or hold a door open at the perfect time (when I had my arms full, coming into school).
He was a great asset to GMS and will be missed. I offer my condolences to his family.

I am so sorry learn of Dan's passing. knowing Dan from Grayslake Middle School and Meadowview school is, I am sure, only know part of him. For example I never knew he liked to sing karaoke. How fun it would have been to hear him! However I did know that Dan was an amazing math teacher and a gentle tutor for students at GMS. Dan always treated me like a friend., for which I am thankful. My sympathy goes out to his parents and siblings. God Bless.

Dan was a stalwart. He was a constant calming presence in my classroom life for the duration of my days as "Miss Kessler." He witnessed me at my best and worst...trudging along beside me through the treacherous terrain that is 7th grade teaching...His reassuring smile and sarcastic, witty remarks became something I relied upon in many moments when I needed the kind of person Dan was in my corner. His favorite song to sing was Billy Joel, "Just the Way You Are," and that´s how Dan did life...he accepted everyone just as they were...he did that for me as crazy as I was, and it was easy to do the same for him. People who support others are hidden gems that often don´t get the credit they deserve for the role they play. Hiding in the background all my years teaching was a secret weapon...A trusted friend who would speed off to the copy machine because I was ten short, or ever so discreetly pass me the keys to my classroom when I hadn´t even realized I´d lost them yet (to save me the face and a panic attack), or stay after the bell (and make himself late to his next class) to make sure the whacko teacher didn´t lose her mind or to reassure and remind me not to doubt my abilities or impact. Dan cared about people. He cared about his students. He cared about me. We had many a long talk about our lives...he advised me...and I him. From these sessions, I learned a lot about who Dan was outside of the school. He gave whatever was needed to anyone he met who asked. He was trusting. He was compassionate. He wanted to help others, and he never asked for it in return. Dan made a huge difference in my life and teaching career. I grew from knowing him. He will be missed and remembered and spoken of as long as I´m around. Thank you, Dan. I will always regret our paths not crossing in the last few years to reflect and laugh about times gone by. Until we meet again, my friend...Don´t go changin´...and keep the mic warm and a beer cold for me. Sending love and light to Dan´s family from Michigan.

Not even sure where to start. I've known "Danny" his whole life. Our friendship began when I started babysitting him as an infant once he was home from the hospital. It continued when I took him trick-or treating in a wagon. He was in our wedding. I would go listen to him sing karaoke at Timothy O'Tooles. He came to our kid's graduation parties. We went to Ravinia together. Since moving to Colorado our friendship continued with text messages.
Pat, Dan, Pete, Nick, Kyle, and family,
I am SO SORRY for your loss. If there is anything I can do please let me know.
