Daniel J. Labus 76 a life long resident of Waukegan passed away peacefully on his Birthday Saturday January 14, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family, the ones he laughed with and lived for. He was born on January 14, 1941 to Walter and Bertha (Matheson) Labus. Dan graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1959. The year before he graduated the Bulldogs won the Suburban League Football championship in which Dan was the starting left end. After High School he attended the Molar Barber College in Chicago. Upon graduating college he embarked on a career cutting hair for his loyal customers in which many became his good friends that lasted over 50 years, he then retired in 2014. Dan loved his hometown of Waukegan, enjoyed watching all his favorite Chicago sports teams and was thankful to see the Cubs win the World Series. He enjoyed socializing with his many friends, doing crossword puzzles, listening to music, singing, telling jokes and especially spending time with his loving family. Dan is survived by his beloved partner Pam Niemi of 28 years, His sons: Michael, Jim, Daniel II (Melissa Fort) and daughters; Juliann Raasch; Joan (Tom) Crane, Jill (Chuck) Crane, his siblings; Jack (the late Ann), Betsy (Danny) Ristow, Tim (Janice), Peggy Labus (Chip Wright), David (Stella) and Brian (Mary); extended family Pam's children; Chad (Suzanne) and Jason (Laura) Niemi, 18 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, sister Ruth Stebbins. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Hospital in Dan's name. Visitation will be Saturday January 21, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with a 12:00 Mass at St. Anastasia Parish 624 Douglas Ave, Waukegan, IL 60085. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Northern Illinois Funeral Services, Inc. 847-833-2928

How I miss my buddy Legs! That was his nickname from high school as he was a fast track man as well as on the football field. Sunset avenue at the Hair loft was a gathering place for all of us old Bulldogs to laugh tell jokes and boast of our past athletic accomplishments which were somewhat inflated. When my husband was very ill and I would take him to Dan for a haircut, he used to tell me to go ahead and go to the grocery store or whatever I needed to do, that he would watch him and talk to him until I got back. That's the kind of guy your dad was. He cared about people and knew just what to say and do at the right time. He will be missed and I truly know how great your loss is. Going to Dan's barbershop for 50 plus years was always a highlight, all we did was laugh, talk about our kids our grand kids and also how great we were in high school.
