John Kleis Obituary

John D. Kleis, 95, of Bunnell, FL. a former resident of Greenwich, CT, died Friday, October 26, 2007. Dr. Kleis was born on February 1, 1912 in Hamburg, NY.

He received his doctorate degree from Yale University in the field of Physics at age 23. He was one of the physicists working at the University of Chicago on the Manhattan Project. He was an alumnus of the Universities of Buffalo, Yale and Harvard and his memberships included the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Harvard 31st AMP. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, gardening and was an avid reader.

Survivors include his son, John D. Kleis, II of Bunnell, FL; daughters, Cheryl Kleis of Latham, NY; Lynne and her husband, Bill Waltman of North Richland Hills, TX; grandchildren, Katherine and William Waltman; great-grandchild, Aiden Waltman.

Memorial Contributions in his name may be made to The Yale University Graduate School Alumni Fund for rising graduate scholars at www.yaletomorrow.yale.edu/give_online/index.html

Arrangements are in the care and trust of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
