Robert William "Bob" Batey

Robert Batey Obituary

Robert W. Batey (Bob), 72, passed away on January 21, 2024. Bob was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Robert and Francis Batey. He attended Marquette University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1973 and a MILR in Industry Relations from Cornell University in 1975. Bob married the love of his life, Christine Weiler, in 1984. The couple settled in Libertyville, Ill., and welcomed two children, Megan and Robert. Bob built a successful life there centered on his family and his profession. Bob was a devoted father and loving husband. He prioritized attending their milestones and smaller life events and regularly coached their youth soccer teams. In addition to his immediate family, Bob, affectionately known as "Uncle Bob," always supported and loved his many nieces, nephews, and family friends. He served as a pillar in his extended family and was a source of wisdom, guidance, and good humor to all he interacted with. Spending time with family and friends was very important to Bob. He loved hosting get-togethers and sharing laughs and love with all who came. He also enjoyed sharing his passions for good food and even better wine. Bob provided for his family by becoming a sought-after human resources professional, eventually retiring as Director of Employee Benefits at CF Industries. He was also an avid golfer and an amateur champion bowler. Bob is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Chris Weiler; their children Megan Batey and Rob Batey (Colleen Yoshioka); grandsons Hobbs and Jay, who gave him his cherished title of "Bompa;" his loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces. A funeral celebrating Bob's life will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Libertyville, followed by a lunch at Main Street Social in downtown Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Franciscan Outreach in Chicago, IL or the Interfaith Community Services in Tucson, AZ. Bob Batey loved and will always be loved and remembered.

Bob was a great friend while we attended Marquette University together. I just recently found out that he passed away a year ago. I remember Bob as being very welcoming and helpful. We had a great time going together to the MU basketball games and parties and playing tennis. I am sorry that he left us.

We will sorely miss Bob. He was a good friend and someone who practiced kindness in small ways every day with his friends. He also was a great listener and during our lunches together, we had great conversations that made our lunch hour such a pleasure.

Always supportive of his wife Chris and family
Life surrounded him by family and friends...I always loved his garden too!
Could always be considered a friend even when we disagreed.
Bob made the world a better place....just by attitude.
Bob left a legacy of faith and family first, friends come next and everyone else was also equal! Good food , good wine, good friends....good times .....always a friend...rest in the peace of the Lord.

Chris, Megan and Rob I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was one of my best friends for over 50 years. He was one of the most optimistic and positive persons I knew. He had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh. But you all knew that. He was a loyal friend and always a joy to be around. We had many great golfing adventures. Especially the time I threw my putter into a tree after missing a putt and it got stuck in the branches. And then my wedge and finally my seven iron into the same tree trying to free the putter. Bob was on the ground laughing but eventually he was able to get them all down with more careful club tosses. See? Positive, optimistic and ready to laugh. I will miss him very much.

I didn´t really know Bob but all the pictures you shared over the years had Bob with a big smile so I surmised he loved you, his family, travels, dining, and being with and sharing with all.
