Carl Flege Obituary

LANCASTER - Carl B. Flege, Sr., 95, died peacefully at his home April 20, 2009.
He was born August 29, 1913 in Reading, Ohio to Bernard and Elizabeth Neubauer Flege. Carl graduated in 1933 from the Cincinnati College of Pharmacy and married Ruth A. Fiedler in 1935. They moved to Lancaster where Carl joined Paul Beiter (later Harold Schorr and Sam Runco) to form Beiter and Flege Drugs. Carl welcomed and served all, not as customers, but as family and friends.
A lifelong resident of Lancaster, Carl was an active member of St. Mary Church, the Maywood Mission, Chamber of Commerce and served as past president of the Rotary Club. Carl and Ruth enjoyed being a part of the Lancaster Country Club community where he was an avid golfer and gin rummy player. In later years he delighted in the 3 coin game daily with coffee buddies at Traders. Carl never met a stranger. His greatest joys were his beloved family and innumerable dear friends "I've been so blessed" he said many times daily. Carl (Dad, Grandpa), you were the blessing God gave us.
Carl is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; two brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by brother, Robert D. Flege; and cousin, Helen L. Franks; his children, Judith (Robert, deceased) Twiss, Richard (Elaine) Flege, Carl Jr. (Carolyn) Flege, Carolyn (Richard) Greff, Margaret (Gary) Kaufman; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; special friend Patty Sadler, and his devoted caregiver.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Lancaster with Fr. Donald Franks as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster from 5:00–9:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m.
