Carol Deyo Obituary

Carol Deyo

MOUNT VERNON: Carol Deyo, 66, of Mount Vernon, died at home on April 18, 2014, with her family by her side.

She was born September 10, 1947 to the late Richard E. Magnuson and Norma K. Christensen Magnuson, and graduated from Liberty Union High School in Baltimore, Ohio.

She is survived by longtime partner, Andy Black, Mount Vernon; daughter, Joli Deyo (Bryce Edwards), Centerburg; siblings, Helen Lewis, Columbus; Richard (Debbie) Magnuson, Marysville; Norman (Sherry) Magnuson, Lancaster; Kenneth E. Magnuson, Lancaster; Cheryl (William) Glover, Hilliard; uncle, William (Helen) Christensen, Galena; aunts, Eleanor Carroll, Columbus and Doris Miller, Westerville; in-laws, Mary Ellen Black, Lee (Julie) Black, Tim (Donna) Black, Mary Kinsman, Rebecca Black, and Nanette Black (Michael Andorfer).

A former surgical veterinary technician, Carol worked tirelessly to rescue injured and abused animals and fought to change the laws regarding injured wildlife in Ohio-most notably two injured deer and four raccoon slated to be destroyed in Knox County last year. She was a founding member and investigator for The Delaware Humane Society, and a member of the Ohio Horseman's Council, American Quarter Horse Association and American Paint Horse Association and took pride in the foundation bloodline she maintained as a quarter horse breeder.

A talented contractor/electrician, Carol was a constant source of inspiration and knowledge from building and repair to medical and holistic healing. She had a beautiful singing voice, a loving spirit, and an incredible work ethic. She never complained, and above all, believed in the power of kindness, compassion, and forgiveness, and lived her life as an example of that. She loved her family, friends and unique family of animals and will be so sadly missed by all.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon, where services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Saving Trooper, P. O. Box 461, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 or your local Humane Society.
