Dorothy Pauline Moore

LANCASTER: Dorothy Pauline Moore, 83, passed away on Saturday evening, August 25 at her residence. She was born on February 18, 1929 to Robert and Mary (Balthaser) Sands of Amanda, Ohio; Dorothy graduated from Amanda Clearcreek High School in 1947. She moved to Miami, Florida and began a singing career traveling the nightclub circuit on the East coast in the heyday of lounge and nightclub acts. She married comedian and musician Johnny Morrison, and together they performed opening acts for The Rat Pack, Jimmy Durante, and various other nightclub entertainers. Upon the untimely death of Johnny, Dorothy brought their three young children, James, William, and Kathy, back to Ohio where she continued to sing in the Columbus area until 1962.

Dorothy left show business when she married Chalmer Milligan and adopted his daughter, Challa in 1962. During their ten year marriage she worked at Dupont in Circleville, Western Electric in Columbus, and Crestview Nursing Home in Lancaster.

Dorothy's love of flowers and gardening was one of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed passing on starts from her flower beds so that others could enjoy their beauty. Among her favorites were Irises that she cultivated for years from her childhood farm in Amanda.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Delmos Moore. She is survived by her brother, Jim Sands and his wife Dottie of Texas, her children and step children, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long time member of the Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to acknowledge and graciously thank Mother's very good friends, Julie Briggs and Kim Heading whose constant care and love saw her through this past year-and-a-half and her final days. Your long time friendship and steadfast devotion is why Mother often said you are angels in disguise.

We also thank Laura Lightener and Theresa Thompson from Fairhope Hospice & Palliative Care for their care, comfort, and service.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00Am Thursday August 30, 2012 at the SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. We are sadden for this lost. I remember Dorothy and Del from Oakland church. The greatest memory I remember in 1990 she came to Logan Elm and spoke to the psychology class. I can remember the 4 hours sitting in the libary and remember the staff of Logan Elm listening to her story. It was a gift you could never forget. Her story will never be forgotten. She was a remarkable true lady who held herself together.
