Jerry Messerly Obituary
Lancaster - Jerome E. "Jerry" Messerly, age 88 of Lancaster, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 26, 1929 in Lancaster, son of the late Francis E. and Pauline M. (Donley) Messerly. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, the Bricklayers and Plasterers Union Local 44, American Legion and AMVETS. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances A. (Allen) Messerly; children, Mark (Sallie) Messerly, of Kent, Kevin (Claire) Messerly, of Lancaster, Ruth Ann (Jeffrey) Poling, of Lancaster, Jane (Tim) Maggart, of Lancaster, Neil (Margie) Messerly, of Avon, and Ross (Amy) Messerly, of Lancaster; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Rita Van Atta, Rose (Eugene) Mulroy, and Marie (Charlie) Sammler; brothers, Herb (Ann) and Phil (Nancy) Messerly; sisters-in-law, Wilma "Billie" and Rita Messerly; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene, Carl and Hugh Patrick Messerly; sister-in-law, Rose Messerly; brother-in-law, "Chick" Van Atta.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 132 S. High St., Lancaster, Fr. Craig Eilerman, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Prayers and sympathy to the family! Big hugs to you Francis! Jerry made my day every time you both came into the office at Dr. Burns! You both have always been a ray of sunshine in my day when I saw you. When I think of the time I worked at Dr. Burns and my favorite patients, you both made that list!!!! I know you are tending flowers in Heaven Jerry!
