Gail Scott Grantham Sr.

1925 - 2013

Gail Scott Grantham, Sr., a WWII disabled Veteran, business owner, devoted husband, father and grandfather went home to the loving arms of our heavenly Lord on Oct. 20, 2013.

He was born in Jackson, Tenn. on Nov. 6, 1925 to Albert C and Elle D. Grantham.

He is preceded in death by both parents, older sister, Gilda Joseph and her husband, Joe Joseph; younger sister, Bernice Hornsby and her husband, John Hornsby; brothers-in-law, Manuel Martinez, Bill Rodberg, Alfredo Ulibarri; and loving wife, Dulcinea Martinez Grantham.

He served in the 4th Infantry during WWII and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged in May 1947. In 1948, he moved to Las Vegas to attend New Mexico Highlands University, where he met and married Dulcinea Martinez on July 7, 1952. After graduating from NMHU, he established his own business, Las Vegas Wholesale. Many customers and friends he met while delivering from Pecos to Roy to Springer to Mora knew him as "Sunshine." Since his semi-retirement he spent time with friends solving world's problems over a cup of coffee at McDonalds.

He is survived by his youngest sister, Joyce Rodberg of Sidell, La.; sister-in-law, Tina Ulibarri of Las Vegas; brothers-in-law, Nash Martinez and wife, Jane, Joe Martinez and wife, Virginia, Tommy Martinez and wife, Mary Ann, all of Albuquerque; numerous nephews and nieces; his companion, Alice Bustamante of Las Vegas; his son, Danny Grantham and wife, Petrita, and their children, Daniel Grantham Jr., and wife, Theresa, and their children, Augustus, Shay Lynn and Ashley, all of Las Vegas, Melissa Elliott and husband, Jeffrey, and their children, Kristen and Cole of Albuquerque; other son, Gail Grantham Jr., and wife, Joyce, and their son, Jeffrey, of Edgewood; his daughter, Barbara Martinez and husband, Gene, and their children, Christopher, Natalie and Gabriel of Cedar Crest, Cathy Bustamante and family of Las Vegas, Ralph Bustamante and wife, Rita, and family of Sena, David Bustamante and wife, Judy, and family of Española, George Bustamante and wife Erica and family of San Miguel; and best friend, Charlie of Las Vegas.

He was born a Baptist but since coming to Las Vegas he attended the Catholic Church and was so proud that Father George Salazar had recently baptized him Catholic.

Rosary services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Anthony Bolman as celebrant. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Las Vegas with the following serving as casket bearers: Daniel Grantham, Jr., Melissa Elliott, Jeffrey Grantham, Christopher Martinez, Natalie Martinez and Gabriel Martinez.
