Alberta Stahl Obituary

April 10, 1937 - December 28, 2017 Alberta Stahl, beloved mother, sister, aunt, colleague and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and those who loved her on December 28, 2017. She courageously battled cancer, supported by the most caring of physicians. Born April 10, 1937 in Los Angeles, Alberta was the older of two children to Herb and Helen Sapper. Alberta graduated from Carthay Center School in 1948. She attended John Burroughs Junior High School and graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1954. In 1953, she was the Honored Queen of Jobs Daughters Bethel #10. She graduated from UCLA in 1958. Alberta married Myron Stahl in 1958, living first on Willaman Drive in Beverly Hills and working as a school teacher at Mt. Vernon Junior High School. She & Myron had three children - Bob, Judy and Howard. Eventually, the family moved to Sierra Drive in Beverly Hills. Alberta was a happy homemaker and an amazing mom to her children. She was a member and Chairman of the Beverly Hills Traffic and Parking Commission from 1985 through 1992. She was active with the PTA and the Boy and Girl Scouts as well. After divorcing in 1980, Alberta picked up the pieces and embarked on a second career. She attended law school and passed the California State Bar in 1986. She worked for various law firms until 1998 when she was appointed a Bankruptcy Trustee by the Department of Justice. Alberta loved her work as a Bankruptcy Trustee. She continued to make the long drive to her law office in downtown LA for almost 20 years before finally retiring in December 2016. In 1983, Alberta met Ira Bilson at a party one Friday night. Ira called her the following day and they soon married and started their life together. Together, Alberta and Ira traveled the world and enjoyed many cruises and trips to the Bellagio in Las Vegas. They were together 31 years until Ira passed away after a brief illness in 2014. Above everything else, Alberta cherished her children and all their accomplishments. There was nothing she enjoyed more than having all her children around later in life. Alberta is survived by her brother Al (Bobbie) as well as her children Bob, Judy (Curt Baker) and Howard (Michael Frese) and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Alberta's memory to the American Red Cross (https://www.redcross.org/donate) Central California Region, 836 Calle Plano, Camarillo, CA 93012.

I just found out about Alberta. Alberta was a nice woman who I worked with at Lewis Brisbois. She was a very smart and super intelligent individual. I will miss her smile. RIP Alberta, Sheila

I am a bankruptcy attorney in Los Angeles and had the opportunity to work with Alberta on many cases over the years in which she served as the Chapter 7 Trustee. Without exception, she handled each case in a professional and ethical manner and always showed compassion and courtesy to the Debtors. As set forth in the LA Times obituary, she had an incredible life and will be missed by many. BB
