Allan Bregman Obituary

January 5, 1926 - September 25, 2018 La Quinta, CA - Family members are profoundly saddened to announce the passing of Allan Bregman. Bregman was an integral part of the entertainment industry best known for being incredibly honest and a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a mentor to many and his career spanned over 5 decades. Born to Harry and Jennie Bregman in Cleveland, Ohio, Allan grew up in the neighboring town of Lorain. After attending Lorain High School and graduating from Ohio State University, he joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 and transferred into the US Navy. During his time in the Navy band, Allan was "bitten by the entertainment bug." Traveling with dance orchestras, playing clarinet and saxophone exposed him to a variety of musical acts. After giving up performing, he became a theatrical booking agent. In 1950 he started his own theatrical agency, which was acquired by Music Corporation of America (MCA) a year later. He continued working at their Cleveland office booking big bands across the country, then transferring to New York to head up MCA'S one-nighter department. In 1955 Allan began handling guest appearances on such television programs as The Perry Como Show, The Steve Allen Show and several NBC specials. In 1957 Allan became the personal manager for Soupy Sales and negotiated a television deal for Mr. Sales which resulted in the popular and widely syndicated program, "The Soupy Sales Show.' As the executive producer of the show, Allan moved to the West Coast and by 1965 became the Vice President of Ashley Famous Agency. During his tenure, he packaged variety television shows for local and network syndication, signing and representing the King Family, Little Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. By 1975 Allan acted as Vice President of Marquee Enterprises, a theatrical company that owned and operated several theaters in the round. The following year, Allan became Vice President of the Nederlander Organization, booking well-known talent and countless Broadway productions across 32 theatres in the United States and England. He booked such talents as Neil Diamond, Bette Midler, Johnny Mathis, the Police, Cher, Celine Dion and Aerosmith. In 1983 Allan became President/National Entertainment Director of Caesar's World Productions. During his time at Caesar's World he booked all of the showrooms and expanded its "Concerts Under the Stars" series along with various productions. Acts included the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, The Pointer Sisters, Natalie Cole, Julio Iglesias and George Burns. Allan traveled all over the world searching for new and innovative talent. He was responsible for discovering Cirque du Soleil bringing the show to Las Vegas. In 2003 he moved to La Quinta, CA, with his wife Jewel. Never one to slow down, he went on to consult and negotiate for Lance Burton, Master Magician, to perform at the Monte Carlo Hotel in Las Vegas and overseas. He also became an honorary board member of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. Booking and developing new talent gave Allan tremendous satisfaction along with spending time with his beloved family and friends. Allan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jewel, his daughter Jacqueline Carrie Bregman, son Steven Bregman, daughter-in-law Christin, and three grandchildren, Alexandra, Tarn, and Sorelle. A memorial event to celebrate Allan's life will be held in 2019 with the location and date to be announced. The family requests any memorial donations in Allan's name are made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation (the Motion Picture Home) or the Stroke Recovery Center of Palm Springs.
