Allan Browne Obituary

May 29, 1938 - September 8, 2022 Allan Browne, retired trial lawyer, known for his work in the field of competitive business practices, passed peacefully in his home in Beverly Hills from complications following COVID-19. He was eighty-four years old and had been ill for many years with Lewy Body Dementia. Allan was born in Los Angeles to Lillian and Arnold Browne. Always deeply attached to his loved ones, as a small child Allan would hide his mother's shoes under his bed, thinking that she had only one pair, and therefore could not leave the house. When his father Arnold retired, he began accompanying Allan to court and became his "lucky charm" as was noted in an article in this newspaper in 1995: "For the past four years, Browne--a plain-spoken former truck driver--has shown up at nearly 50 trials where his lawyer son is working. And his son has won every one of them." https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1995-11-30-me-8677-story.html

Allan attended UCLA, and USC Law School, graduating at the top of his class. He first practiced and became a partner in the firm Ervin Cohen & Jessup LLP, and in 1985 established his own highly successful litigation firm. Allan was regarded by the countless lawyers whose careers he launched as not merely a legendary trial lawyer, but also an unmatched mentor and beloved friend. Allan tried well over a hundred jury trials; represented clients from the highest reaches of the business, entertainment, and political worlds; and founded the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. Though Allan retired from law practice more than a decade ago, to this day his former partners keep on their firm's website the following: "In 1985 Allan Browne founded the firm Browne, Woods, and George with bedrock principles that continue to define and inspire in his field: excellence in all written and verbal presentations; a dedication not merely to litigating, but to the art of trial lawyering; zealous advocacy and an indefatigable work ethic for our clients; and uncompromising integrity in our interactions with bench and bar. As we practice law, and as we live our lives, Allan remains our guiding star."

In addition to his devotion to the law, Allan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend with boundless enthusiasm for the natural world. His passions included horseback riding and hiking at his ranch, meditation, yoga, travel, biking, and generally bringing joy to everyone he met. Allan made friends wherever he went, inspiring laughter, smiles and rising spirits. He lavishly and generously shared his love for life, his persistent optimism, and his brilliance-with all he encountered. His bright humor and endless curiosity remain enduring and tremendous gifts.

His beloved wife Patricia Browne passed in 2011. His dear sister Marilyn Gans passed in 2004. He is survived by his five children, Shmuel Browne, Laynie Browne, Susanne Browne, Dana McCormick and Kimberly Slevin, his sons-in-law John Greger and Nelson McCormick, and by his many grandchildren: Simcha Browne, Bezalel Browne, Tuvia Browne, Batsheva Browne, Benjamin Davidson, Jacob Davidson, Tyler McCormick, Em McCormick, Danny Slevin, Kylie Slevin, and Katie Slevin. To all those who knew him, he was a remarkable and much beloved presence in the world who will be remembered always. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association.

When Patricia first started dating Allan she brought him over to introduce him to my husband Bill and I. They were so happy together. Patty and I shared the same birthday! Bill and I continued our friendship for years with them. Sorry for your loss. Fondly Bonnie Crow

So deeply sorry to read of Allan´s passing. Working on cases with him was one of the great joys of my professional life. What a mensch. Good night, Zeyde. How well I remember your joy when you announced you were going to be a grandfather during one of the trial preps we worked on. Your smile lit up the whole world that day!
