Allen Hohnroth Obituary

It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Allen Lester Hohnroth (81 years old) on March 19, 2025 in Santa Clarita, CA. Allen was born July 2, 1943 to Lester and Floy Hohnroth in Nebraska City, NE. Allen, along with his older brother Roger (d 2001), grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1961, serving as class president. He was Future Farmers of America president in 1960. In high school, he worked at the local radio station KNCY and learned to fly planes.
After serving in the National Guard, he started his career as an On-Air Radio personality. He worked at KCOW (Alliance, NE), KFOR (Lincoln), KOA (Denver) and KAYQ (Kansas City).
In the 1970s, Allen moved into post production in Hollywood, CA, starting at Chuck Blore productions, Buzzy's Recording Studio then opening his own post production house, Outlaw Sound in 1984. Outlaw's services included sound for Radio/TV commercials (California Grapes "Heard it through the Grapevine"), movie looping, video games sound and was one of the first Hollywood Studios to offer ISDN services. Allen worked with Hollywood personalities: May West, George Burns, Charlton Heston, Roy Rogers, James Garner, Drew Carey, Bob Newhart, Buddy Hackett, Racquel Welsh and Casey Kasem and others. After earning many CLEOS, Mobius and International Broadcasting Awards, he sold the studio in 2002.
Although CA was Allen's home, you couldn't take the "Nebraska Boy" out of him. He was a Kansas City Chiefs and U of NE Cornhuskers fan. He loved riding tractors and working at the ranch on Oak Mountain. Allen was an avid wildlife supporter and protected habitats. His most loved nonprofits were the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation and Carousel Ranch.
He met his wife and life partner Renee Berlin in 1984. They celebrated 41 years of loving, supporting and being there for each other. Allen is survived by his wife, three kitties: Alvin, Simon and Theodore, sister-in-law Nancy Hohnroth, niece Carolyn Kucera and family and many cousins.
Contributions in Allen's memory can be made to:
The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation Santa Paula, CA Hohnroth/Berlin Handler Grant,
Carousel Ranch, Santa Clarita, CA (designate Facilities)

Warm, genuine, gracious, and talented. So talented but charmingly modest about his abilities. He worked with some amazing people - and always held his own. Thanks for all of it , friend.
