Andrew Hou Obituary

August 4, 1980 - April 27, 2014 A homegrown Southern Californian, Andrew Hou, of Cerritos, passed away in a sudden tragic accident in Minnesota. He had lived around the country, from Boston, to Denver, to Minneapolis and finally, back home to Los Angeles. Andrew enjoyed life, indulging in food, travel and friends. He made reservations at Michelin starred restaurants but it was In-n-Out, Waffle House, Roscoe's, and Phil's with his buddies that really brought a smile to his face. He had been slowly visiting all the baseball stadiums of America with his Californian contingent of friends, interspersed with trips to Las Vegas with the same folks a few times a year. 8 years in Boston gave him friends who are as close as family, and a wife who had pursued him relentlessly and loves him ceaselessly. His medical training took him from Boston, to Torrance to Denver. Sadly he never picked up surfboarding or skiing. He had a quiet way about him but an outrageous sense of humor that revealed itself at unexpected moments. As a husband and father, his family was blessed and lucky to be showered with attention at all times. Together since they were 19 years old, Andrew is greatly missed by his wife, Amy Chen Hou. He is also survived by his two daughters, Madeleine and Josephine Hou, and his parents, Sue and Abel Hou. Visitation will be on May 3rd from 1-8pm. The service will be on May 4th from 11am - 1pm. Location for both: Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, CA 90601. There will be a private cremation ceremony on May 6th.

Dear Amy,

Dear Amy,
You probably don't remember me. But my parents are friends with Uncle Abel and Auntie Sue. We flew out from California to attend your beautiful wedding many years ago. I am soo sorry for your lost. Andy was such a kind, wonderful person. I know he is leaving behind many loved ones. You and the kids are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr Amy Hou, Our sincere thoughts go out to you and your daughters. We have the honor of working with you when Dr. Vandersteen is busy. You have always jumped in to help us with our daughter. Just the Friday night before the accident we were with you at Children's hospital visiting about Madison's "leg" pain i.e. bladder spasms. When I heard on Monday about your great loss, my heart immediately broke. Madison and I stopped and said a prayer for you and your beautiful daughters. We were watching Frozen (for the 15th time) when you told us how much your daughters loved that same movie. You have a great bedside manner by letting your patients know you are human and compassionate. Perhaps this is why I felt compelled to reach out to you and tell you, we are praying for you and keep you in our thoughts as you begin this incredible difficult journey back to whatever normal will be for you. Know there are many of us, cheering for you and your daughters. Sincerely, Pam, Rick and Madison Harbarth
