Angelo P. Calfo passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, surrounded by the family he so loved, at his home in Thousand Oaks, California.
Mr. Calfo was born in 1934 to Angelo and Angelina Calfo in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a boy, he worked in his family's grocery store in Salt Lake and attended Judge Memorial High School. He graduated in 1956 from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, majoring in Philosophy and English. While attending Creighton, Angelo met his future wife, Frances Artzer. They were married in 1956 at Saint James Catholic Church in her home town of Denver, Colorado.
After serving in the U.S. Army at Fort McClellan, Alabama, Angelo returned, with his wife, to Denver where they started a family and he began his remarkable 43-year career with the pharmaceutical company Hoffman La Roche. In 1966, Angelo and his family moved to Southern California where he became a division, then regional, sales manager. He also became an active parishioner at Saint Mel's Catholic Church in Woodland Hills, and later at Saint Paschal Baylon in Thousand Oaks. His children attended Louisville, Crespi and El Camino Real High Schools in the San Fernando Valley.
Angelo was dearly loved and respected by the friends and family that he cared for so much throughout his life, and with whom he loved to celebrate, sing and worship.
He retired in 2004, having received numerous honors and achievement awards during his tenure at Hoffman La Roche. He was honored with a special tribute to his accomplished career at a retirement gathering in Tucson, Arizona. His wife and nine children were flown in to surprise him at the "Calfo Town" celebration where they, along with Angelo's colleagues, recognized him for his continued vision, hard work, and principled leadership.
He is survived by his wife, and children: Cathy Calfo of Santa Cruz, California; Carolyn Moebest and her husband Willard Moebest of San Diego; Angelo J. Calfo and his wife Patricia Joyce of Seattle; Mary Burns and her husband Thomas Burns of Camarillo, Alexander Calfo and his wife Beatrice Calfo of Los Angeles; Paula Green and her husband Thomas Greene of West Hills, Frances Calfo and her husband Trent Jones of Santa Monica, Anthony Calfo and his wife Cristen of Moorpark; and, Jennifer Sutton and her husband Richard Sutton of Moorpark. He is also survived by his brother Charles Calfo of Salt Lake City and thirty-three grand-children and three great grand-children.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 14 at Saint Paschal Baylon Church, 155 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Mary Health of the Sick, 2929 Theresa Drive, Newbury Park, CA 91320.
