Annemarie Heideman Obituary

August 18, 1931 - January 8, 2017 Annemarie Charlotte (Mueller) Heideman, 85, passed away January 8, 2017 at Autumn Hills Alzheimer's Facility in Bloomington, IN. She was born in Oelze, Germany and eventually moved to Grossbreitenbach, where she spent the majority of her childhood. Annemarie left her east german hometown and family for Frankfurt, Germany in early 1958 to escape communism and work as a nanny on a USA military base. Her great aunt sponsored her immigration to Southern California where she found work as a nanny. She went to Pasadena City College to learn English and also went to Al Tate's Beauty School and earned her beautician's license. Annemarie met her husband, Alfred Heideman, on a ski trip in Sun Valley, Idaho through friends. They eventually married and settled in Pasadena, California. Annemarie devoted her life to raising her two daughters Carol and Chandra. She stayed active with a social network of German friends and her neighbors and enjoyed cutting her friends' and families' hair. She loved to read, could not be beat in checkers, was an avid scrabble player, loved to blast and sing her German music on KPCC every Saturday morning, hiked up Henninger regularly, traveled in her and Al's motorhome, tended to her garden/flowers, and was a regular social butterfly. Annemarie lived the last eight and a half years of her life in Bloomington, Indiana. During this time she became an annual participant in Alzheimer's research at the Neuroscience Center in Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred and is survived by her two daughters and their families: Carol Hetrick, her husband Bill Hetrick, and their daughters Alexandra and Gabrielle Hetrick of Bloomington, IN; Chandra Shair, her husband Peter Shair, and their daughters Petra and Danica Shair of Sierra Madre, CA. Thanks to Home Instead for the wonderful caregivers and Autumn Hills, Premier Hospice, and Drs. LaFollette and LaGrange at Premier Health. Donations in her memory can be made to the "Alzheimer's Foundation" at www.alzfdn.org. "Lass die winde wehen denn sie waren mein tod."

I'm really sorry to hear of Annemarie's passing. My brothers and I remember her very fondly from our earliest years as members of an Air Force family living at Rhein Main AFB in Germany from 1958 to 1961. She was our nanny and we spent many hours with her.

She was an absolute blessing who touched my life. I've never forgotten her.

Godspeed.
