Anthony M. "Tony" Frank

69th United States Postmaster General and Savings & Loan Executive. Born in Berlin, Germany in 1931, Tony arrived in the U.S. in 1937, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022 in Carmel, CA. He had unending curiosity, a sense of adventure, a great sense of humor, and integrity. He graduated Hollywood High in 1949, and Dartmouth College/Tuck with an MBA in 1953. While serving in the Army, he married Gay Palmer in Carmel in 1954. Tony was a delegate for Robert Kennedy in 1968. Quickly emerging as a leader in the Savings and Loan Industry, he became President of First Nationwide S&L in 1972. In 1988, he was appointed U.S. Postmaster General. He wanted to serve the country that gave his family refuge during WWII. As PMG, Tony introduced new tech and originated the wildly popular Elvis stamp. He served on many boards, including ACT, SF Zen Center, and the Smuin Contemporary Ballet. Tony loved traveling, reading, music, the arts, politics, the Warriors, and his friends and family. Tony is predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Gay Frank, and second wife, Joey Shepard. He is survived by his two children, Tracy and Randy (Katie), and five beloved grandchildren, Summer, Owen, Jason, AJ, and Jack. He will be greatly missed and he will always inspire.
