Arlene Bitely Obituary

Bitely, Arlene M. (Mathisen)
Following a slow decline in health, Arlene Bitely died peacefully in the presence of her immediate family, October 29, 2005 at the San Dimas Retirement Home. From 1955 until 1985 Arlene served her community as a strong and devoted member of the Garvy School Board of Education in Rosemead, California. Born in Illinois, the former Arlene Mathisen met her future husband, Walter Bitely in Catalina, California. Together, they had a daughter, Yvonne Lynn and owned a retail automotive parts business in Alhambra, California. They also found time to commit themselves to various community activities, including PTA, YMCA, Scouting and Jobe's Daughters. Arlene and Walter retired from their business in 1980 and continued their community service. During their 55 years of marriage, Arlene and Walter traveled and enjoyed their motor home. In 1986, The Arlene M. Bitely Elementary School in Rosemead, California was dedicated in her honor and recognized as a California Distinguished School. This award remains in effect today. Arlene is survived by her daughter, Yvonne. A private, immediate family service was held November 2, 2005 at the Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
