Arthur Harold Knapp

1933 - 2021 Arthur Harold Knapp passed away from natural causes on September 2, 2021. Art was born in Michigan in 1933 and moved to Los Angeles with his family at a young age. Except for a two-year stint in the U.S. Army and his time at U.C. Berkeley, Art lived in the Los Angeles area - mostly Pasadena, Arcadia, and Covina - for the rest of his life. He married Jean Calfee on July 25, 1959, and celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to Jean's passing. He had two wonderful sons, Mark and Steven, six grandchildren (Sinjin, Hunter, Kelsey, Caileigh, Tara, and Kane), and one great-grandchild (Hayes). Art liked building things, fixing stuff, and telling stories. His professional career was spent as a structural engineer and a general contractor, and there were few places in Southern California that weren't somewhere near a building he'd worked on in some capacity. His main passion, though, was for cars, most notably early Ford V-8s. He restored numerous cars over his lifetime, including several that won awards at the regional and national levels. His real joy, however, was driving his cars to shows and meets throughout the western U.S. He preferred side roads to the interstates, and remembered every road that he'd traveled and every spot where he broke down. He was a valued resource and trusted crony to a nationwide network of 'old car guys', which included his closest friends.Art's other great love was his grandchildren. He attended his grandkids' dance recitals, softball games, volleyball tournaments, rugby matches, and graduation ceremonies with equal enthusiasm. He took great pleasure in sharing detailed and humorous stories about his life with his grandchildren.Art was a terrific husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and will be dearly missed.A celebration of Art's life will take place at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills at 12 noon on September 25, 2021.
