Barbara Martin Obituary

Barbara Anne Martin of Pacific Palisades, Ca passed away on Sunday, February 5 at the age of 98.Barbara was born in Wellesley Hills, Ma to Michael James O'Connor and Bridget Conneely O'Connor on March 25, 1924. Two years after graduating high school, Barbara joined the Navy, becoming a nurse stationed in San Diego during World War II. While there, she met and married William Martin, a union that lasted 70 years until his death in 2015. They had three children, Diane Bock (deceased 2019), David Martin and Brian Martin. She had 7 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.
A devout Catholic, always the first to help others, Barbara donated over 4500 hours of volunteer assistance at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, Ca and contributed to numerous Catholic charitable organizations over the years. She never wanted attention and opted to stay in the background, but everyone knew how special her heart was. She was a talented athlete, an avid gardener, and her life was guided by her devotion to her husband, children and to those less fortunate.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28 at 10:00AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Pacific Palisades, Ca. A private interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in LA. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity in her name is suggested.
