Bernard Lax Obituary

October 25, 1956 - August 3, 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard Lax on August 3, 2021. Born in 1956 to Holocaust Survivors Lewis and Sidonia Lax, Bernard left no doubt that he was destined to become someone very special to both his family and friends. A true entrepreneur in many areas, he touched everyone he met. His philanthropy was far-ranged and often done anonymously. He brought his quick wit and humor to everyone he met. Bernard was raised in Sherman Oaks, California and attended Grant High School. Upon graduation, he went to San Diego State where he received a degree in Business. While there, he participated and excelled in water sports, particularly water skiing. As a side job, he invented "Funky the Clown." The costuming combined with his infectious personality followed him for the rest of his life.Soon after graduation, Bernard went to work with his parents at Classic Creations, a women's clothing manufacturer and, after a short apprenticeship, started the soon-to-be successful fashion line, Lewie Bernard. It was during this time that he met Lynda, the love of his life, and they were later married. Their son, Taylor, was born in 1988. In 1996, Bernard took his business life in a different direction. He, along with Lynda, started Pulp Studio which, to this day, is a dominant force in the glass fabrication industry.Bernard's interests ranged from classic cars to fine wines. He also had a keen interest in the people around him, and was more than willing, both physically and financially to help out whenever he could. He was always on to the next project. Often hobbies created the next business project. One of his latest passion projects was KIN Whiskey which combined his love of family and spirits. Like his father, he loved to build and watch the progress. Bernard loved life, his family, his friends and his pets. He loved working hard, creating new ventures and having fun. The world has lost one of the good guys.He is survived by his wife Lynda, their son Taylor, his mother Sidonia Lax, his sisters Genie Benson (Gary) and Irene Boujo (Yoni), Carol Yamane, Pat Selman (Dallas), Richard Nishimoto, Phillip Nishimoto (Anne), Suzi Lanzillota (Arnold), along with loving nephews and cousins Together, with all of his friends and acquaintances, he will be sorely missed.Services will be on Sunday, August 8 at 3:00pm at Mount Sinai Memorial Park and Mortuaries,5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any of the following organizations: Doctors Without Borders (donate.doctorswithoutborders.org, 800/928-8685), World Central Kitchen (donate.wck.org, 202/844-6330) or L.A. During my Professional life , I had the privilege to deal with Mr. Lax professionally, always receiving kind and professional words from Mr, Lax . When I professionally stumbled in life, he was ready to offer a chair in his company , which did not materialize for different reasons but the mere intention and confidence in me , did lift my spirit , Mr. Bernard Lax , may your memory live and be a blessing to those fortunate enough to call you a friend and family

Lynda, Taylor, my deepest condolences to you and family. I am saddened and lost for words on Bernard´s passing. It has been an honor, privileged, and grateful to work for Bernard. He was my boss, my friend, and most importantly a brother. I worked for Bernard´s parents Lewie and Sidonia and treated me like their son. Later when Bernard Bernard took over Classic Creations , I worked for Bernard and Lynda and just like Bernard´s parents, both Bernard and Lynda treated me as family. Bernard had a warm and humanitarian heart. He treated people with respect no matter where people came from. I will miss you boss, my friend, my brother.

Lynda, words can't describe how sorry I am for your loss. My husband and I feel truly blessed to have spent the weekend with you and Bernard celebrating Elise and Willie ; please know you are always welcome to our home anytime in South Texas. Our deepest condolences to you and your son Taylor. I've attached a pic of you and Bernard braving the dance floor first before the dance floor had a chance to be mopped dry. With Love, Michelle and Mike

What a wonderful tribute to a truly wonderful guy. I am so sorry to read this news of Bernard's passing. I knew Bernard during his San Diego days, when we both worked at the Aquatic Center. He was a really fun guy, unanimously liked by one and all, a gregarious personality who was at once easy going, self confident, relaxed, and eternally jolly. This aspect of his personality made Bernard someone everyone wanted to be friends with and be around--and it really did seem to me that Bernard knew absolutely everyone and every detail about each person. After college, our lives drifted apart as he moved back to LA and I stayed in San Diego. However, I was fortunate enough to see Bernard over the years at various MBAC alumni events, and to my delight, he had not changed even a smidge. As a matter of fact, he always acted as if we kept in touch and saw each other every day. Bernard always brought a smile to my face, and I am going to always remember him and that wonderful gift of happiness he shared with all of us that knew him.

The glass business has always been difficult but you tackled it with humility and charm. Though we were officially competitors, I enjoyed our many conversations over the years. More importantly, I looked up to your accomplishments and appreciated your many talents. I always felt like at the end of one of our chats that you had taught me something. The world is a lesser place for your passing.

So sad and hard for me to realize he is gone but not forgotten. Bernard gave me the opportunity to work for him from 2013-2016 until I returned back to Santa Fe. He was an amazing sharp businessman which I had the honor to be in the production meetings each week which could be rough but learning. Just the 3 years working for him made me realize how God had his hand on his life. May you Rest In Peace. My sincere condolences to Lynda, Taylor and the Pulp family.

I am still trying to believe this. In life there are always a few people that have that magnetic and warm way about them. That mixed in with deep knowledge of business, glass, art and more, and the conversations were never dull and always full and fun. I was lucky enough to regularly run in to Bernard and Lynda at the Glass shows and also saw their incredible factory. Bernard and Pulp were, and remain a huge influence to myself and our company up north in Canada. Rest in Peace and thank you for the memories, I (we) will never forget you!

I am still trying to process this- he was so amazing in so many ways. First time I met him was many years ago at regional show in Texas. We shared a cab back to the airport and it was this awesome experience of hearing all of things that Bernard had going on. I didn't want the ride to end. From there on out, seeing Bernard and Lynda at shows both here in the US and every other year in Germany was always a highlight for me. Such a great man, leader, and true visionary. Lynda and family my deepest condolences to you and I'll have you and yours in mind.

Lynda and family,
My sincere sympathy to you, this is shocking, unbelievable loss.
Back in the 90´s I received Bernard´s telephone call to inquire about interlayer, I knew he was one of a kind. Sincere, straight forward, get right to it attitude I just loved, as I can relate to that work ethic. Our business relationship/friendship was fun because we made things happen in business, made work enjoyable and fun.
With love, I wish you healing and peace.
