Bertram Roger Zweig

1934 - 2022

1934 - 2022 Bertram Roger Zweig died in Marina del Rey on May 14, 2022, after a brief illness. Born and raised in western Pennsylvania, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy in the USS Hollister.
A graduate of the Columbia University School of Law, Bert became a partner of Jones Day Cockley and Reavis in Cleveland, Ohio, and established Jones Day in Los Angeles in 1973 where he lived the rest of his life. Bert was "of counsel" at various law firms and taught part-time at Pepperdine University.
An expert in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, Bert served on many corporate boards and mentored generations of law students and associates. He was known as a deal maker and established the Cleveland Cavaliers with Nick Mileti.
An avid sportsman, Bert played college lacrosse, sailed and raced large sailboats, and engaged in cycling into his 80's. He completed the 544 mile AIDS Life Cycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles three times, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for this cause.
Bert is survived by his loving wife Michelle Schoenfeld Garber; son Alex and his partner Robert Furey of San Diego; sister Rose Starr of New York City; stepson Jeffrey Belson, wife Paula and children, Kate and Liam; stepson Daniel Belson, wife Natasha and children, Levi, Layla and Zane; first cousins, Marjorie Cohen Gulkis and Cynthia Cohen Kollin; and many nephews and nieces.
Bert was interred at Hillside Memorial Park, Culver City. His family and friends will remember him with love to eternity.
The family would appreciate donations in his name to the American Cancer Society.
