Bruce Juell Obituary

Bruce Charles Juell, of Palos Verdes Estates, died on December 31 at Silverado Memory Care Community in San Juan Capistrano. He was born on February 1, 1934, in Minnesota, graduated from Inglewood High School, and attended USC on an NROTC scholarship. Upon receiving his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, he received his commission to begin Navy flight training in Pensacola.

In June of 1956, Bruce married Jean Haynes, who he had met at USC. He received his wings on October 5 of the same year and served in the Navy until 1958, when he began working as a sales engineer. In 1961 he received his MBA from USC and took various consulting jobs until he was named CEO of Great Southwest Corp/Six Flags in 1970 and remained there for the next decade.

He continued to manage troubled companies with various partners until establishing Bruce Juell & Company in 2003. Inspired by a strong desire to continue living a meaningful life in his later years, he published The Retirement Activities Guide. Bruce and Jean moved to Freedom Village retirement community in Orange County shortly before Jean passed on May 18, 2018.

While Bruce's career was rewarding and marked with notable achievements, his greatest legacy is his family, which he and Jean were devoted to above all else. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by his five children - Jan Barrett (Tony), Melinda Trevino (Paul), Patti Walkup (Gardner), Laura Bess (Richard), and Chris Juell - ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Carol Altman and Gloria Van Overbeck. A private family service will be held at St. John Fisher Church, where he will be interred in the columbarium next to Jean.
