I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Dan's family. I first knew Dan as my daughter's terrific 7th grade English teacher. Later, when we worked together as colleagues, I always knew that I could count on Dan for his honest reactions, his expertise, and his innate knowledge of what works well with kids. He really cared about his students and Cheltenham. I will always remember his smile, his integrity, and his vitality.

I was hired at Elkins Park shortly after Dan was. He was my friend for 33 years, and I am deeply saddened by his loss. His thousands of students loved him, as do I. We have truly lost a wonderful friend, someone who helped many, many people. I pray for him and for all of you in the family. We share your loss. God Bless.

Danny and I started teaching at almost the same point in time. He came to Elkins Park Junior High in November and I came in February of the 1970-71 school year. For many years our careers were intertwined teaching the same students. Danny was always positive and cheerful with an impish grin. He was willing to experiment with new ideas and new techniques to reach his students. A fine man and a fine teacher - he will be greatly missed.

I'm grateful for the chance to have known Dan, if not long or well. Based on everything I've heard about him and from our several conversations, I admire the man and the brightness of spirit and caring he brought to his colleagues and students. I am still just delving into all of the folders and materials I inherited when he retired from Cedarbrook. I will only think more specially of him as I review, use, learn from and honor his work and gifts.

Dan Lynch was many things to the Spector Family. He was a teacher; he was a mentor; and, most importantly, he was a friend. The entire Spector family loved and respected him. He will be missed.

Dan was a "stand-up" guy. When asked, he gave you an honest opinion and sometimes even when not. When support was needed however, Dan would be there for you even if he didn't agree with you. What I will remember most about him was his committment, dedication and love of the students he taught. All teachers...no all people could stand to take a page out of the Dan Lynch book.

My sympathy to Dan's family. I have been a French/Spanish teacher at Cedarbrook for the last 18 years. Through all the educational and administrative changes Dan's vision was clear: Keep the students' best interest the #1 priority. Kids respected and loved him. When asked to write a description of a "famous" character in French or Spanish, several students throughout the years chose to immortalize their beloved Mr. Lynch.

I can't find the words to express how I feel about Dan leaving us. But there is a band that supplies for many of us, the soundtrack for our lives, and it is something we shared.

Brokedown Palace
----------------
Fare you well, my honey,
fare you well my only true one.
All the birds that were singing
are flown, except you alone.
Goin' to leave this brokedown palace,
on my hands and my knees I will roll, roll, roll.
Make myself a bed by the waterside,
in my time, in my time I will roll, roll, roll.
In a bed, in a bed, by the waterside I will lay my head.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.
River goin' to take me, sing me sweet and sleepy,
sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home.
It's a far gone lullaby, sung many years ago.
Mama, mama many worlds I've come since I first left home.
Goin' home, goin' home, by the riverside I will lay my bones,
listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.
Going to plant a weepin' willow;
on the bank's green edge it will grow, grow, grow.
Sings a lullaby beside the water,
lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll.
Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can
tell,
listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.

Dan was a friend to many. His students adored him as they learned the ways of life and success. He WAS CHELTENHAM schools through and through. A great example of what teaching should be about. And thanks Dan for being there for me in a time of need. You will be missed.

I would like to personally thank everyone who has left such sincere comments and stories in this guestbook. If there's one thing my father loved, it was a good anecdote. I'd especially like to thank all his former students, you really made his day, more than you know. Although he enjoyed his retirement, he would often comment to me about how much he missed the kids at school. I invite you all to attend the proceedings this saturday night and monday morning, and thanks again for your thoughts.

Our heartfelt condolences are sent to Mr. Lynch's family, friends, and co-workers at Cedarbrook Middle School. All three of our kids (Michael, Matthew and Katie) were students of his. He will be remembered as one of Cheltenham School District's finest.
Our prayers are with you.

I remember Dan as an avid Gary Paulsen and Will Hobbs fan, as he helped students choose adventure stories in Cedarbrook Library!

Dan and I would often see each other as I walked the Cedarbrook track while he clocked two laps (running!) to my one.

I worked in the office at Cedarbrook for 8 years. During our lunch breaks Dan would be jogging and I would be walking on the track at Cedarbrook. My children had Dan as an English teacher and enjoyed his class. I was so shocked to hear about Dan's passing. He was a terrific teacher and a wonderful person that will be missed.
