David Hurst Obituary

April 19, 1941 - August 18, 2022 David O. Hurst, Professor of Chemistry and Astronomy at Glendale Community College (1964 -2006), died on August 18, 2022. Professor Hurst taught courses in Chemistry, Physical Science, Astronomy and Humanities during his tenure. Prof. Hurst and the Physical Science Department were responsible for developing the astronomy program which was the impetus for the construction of the Planetarium in 2004.
A lifetime learner at the highest level, his personal interests included a wide spectrum of subjects. He was conversant in many subjects, including Philosophy, Music, Mythology and Linguistics. He was skilled in playing the harmonica, and he enjoyed playing the piano and dulcimer, the recorder and the trumpet.
He loved education and the opportunity to help students learn the value of learning. In retirement, Prof. Hurst volunteered at Mono Lake, had a home in Mammoth Lakes, and gave extensive time to studying the geology of the Eastern Sierras.
He is survived by his wife, Agneta Hurst and daughter Elizabeth Hurst.
