Dierk Sindermann Obituary

March 19, 1945 - November 3, 2021 An international journalist, entrepreneur, fashionista, bon vivant and art collector, Dierk Sindermann passed away on November Third, following a rough battle with cancer. The impossibly young-at-heart 76-year-old had a huge, generous spirit and curious mind, a man who drank deeply and passionately from the cup of life. He lit up every room he entered with his warmth and humor, and he treated everyone he met with kindness and decency.Deeply interested in entertainment, history, cinema, and music, he wrote about America for a myriad of outlets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; bringing flair to all his journalism and storytelling for over 50 years.Born in Bad Grund, Germany, just at the end of World War II, he was the only child of Irmgard and Willy Sindermann. His father was an accountant and his mother was a musician, from whom he inherited his love for music. He formed a band in college and while this was where his youthful passion was directed, he began working in journalism, writing about music and entertainment. He left the band, but never stopped loving all kinds of music. It turned out he was really good at journalism, with his natural charm, wit and sensitivity. The profession allowed him to indulge his love for the arts and entertainment, as he honed his craft. He also began collecting art, which was a lifelong interest and passion of Dierk's.He worked for the Kölner Express newspaper in Cologne, rapidly moving up the ranks to become the youngest Assistant Editor in Chief at the paper. Eager to accelerate his career, he moved to LA in the late 70's, with the intention of getting experience and connections in the Hollywood film industry for a while before returning to Germany. At least that was the plan. Instead, he and his young son Sebastian made LA their permanent home and Dierk soon began to thrive as a dynamic and innovative media practitioner. As well as being a regular correspondent for multiple prestigious newspapers and magazines in the Germanic world, he and his close friend Hans Spuerkel started a newspaper in 1986 for the German community in California and Nevada, Neue Presse, which is still in business today.Always enterprising, he was also booker of Hollywood talent for a successful German television show on RTL, bringing a huge variety of A and B listers on to nighttime talk shows there. He joined the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 1990 and was a proud and popular member of the group, serving on the board and on various committees. As well as his love of art, Dierk loved style and fashion and had a unique eye when it came to style and design. He had pzazz and flair in abundance and many of his friends believed he could have easily been a fine architect or designer. He loved to travel and was tirelessly interested in new cultures, food and experiences.A loyal and loving friend to many, Dierk's friends and family are inconsolable at the loss of such a bright and beautiful spirit. He had a terrific sense of humor and was deeply suspicious of those he met who were devoid of the ability to laugh and find lightness. His is survived by his wife Patricia Danaher, with whom he enjoyed many unforgettable adventures and their two cats, Thomas Thompson and Mitzi Deedles. He leaves behind, sons Christopher, Sebastian and Max and so very many grieving friends and colleagues. There was only one Dierk Sindermann and he is irreplaceable. His funeral will take place in Los Angeles.

My condolences to Dierk's family. He and I were friends and former neighbors. We had a lot of fun, drank good food and wine. One of my fondest memories was going to see Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in the theater together. Neither of us had seen it in decades. We both reveled in how well it held up. He was a great friend!

Liebe Patricia,
Dierk bleibt in unserer Mitte.
Ingo mit Angelika und Klaus
