Donald Bogdon Obituary

November 18, 1930 - February 23, 2023 Don Bogdon was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on November 18, 1930 to Frank and Ethel Bogdon. He was graduated from Westminster College, Pennsylvania (BS, 1952), University of Pennsylvania Medical School (MD, 1956) and University of Minnesota (MS Medicine, 1962).
In 1957, Don completed his internship at Walter Reed Army Hospital (Washington, DC) and then was transferred to Germany where he and Clare, his wife of 65 years, developed their love of travel that would take them to all 7 continents. Don would later be granted an honorable discharge as a captain.
In 1962, Don completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Oncology at the Mayo Clinic and moved to Southern California, where he practiced for more than 35 years. Some of his accomplishments include: attending faculty member and clinical professor at USC Medical School, established first medical oncology practice in Glendale area in 1965, and chief of staff and chairman of board of directors of Glendale Memorial Hospital.
Despite his accomplishments, Don believed his life should be measured by his love of life. Don had passion for everything he did. He loved and was loved by his family. Don and Clare danced like no one was watching. He threw himself into his many interests with a child-like enthusiasm. He cherished his friends associated with those interests. In addition to travel, his interests included: baseball, fishing, food, golf and wine. He smelled the roses.
Don's wife Clare died in 2020. He is survived by 4 children, Michelle Bogdon, Don Bogdon Jr., Maureen Morrow (Jeff) and Kevin Bogdon (Serena), and 3 granddaughters, Kaela and Kelli Morrow and Kesena Bogdon. He will be deeply missed by is family and friends.

I worked with Don when I was an oncology fellow and then attending at John Wesley Hospital. Don was unfailingly cheerful, friendly, helpful to me, and sympathetic to our patients. Working with him was a pleasure in a difficult field. He will be missed.
