Edward Bunting Obituary

August 22, 1925 - March 7, 2014 Edward Davison Bunting, (Ed), passed away March 7, 2014. He died at home as he wanted, surrounded by those he loved. Ed was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1925 and came with his wife, Eve, and three small children to California in 1958. His intelligence and drive and respect for others led him to key positions within the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Group. His small son always bragged, "My dad owns Kaiser." Not quite. But he was a strong force as the Los Angeles area's Medical Group Administrator, a position he held until his retirement in 1989. All his life Ed was proud of being Irish. And proud of being an American. He met his wife, Eve, at Queen's University, Belfast, where they were both students. Her first memory of him is how he offered her his raincoat in an Irish storm. They were strangers then, but not for long. Their marriage in Maghera Presbyterian Church lasted for 64 years. While at Queen's Ed played rugby for the First XV. He played for the North of Ireland Rugby Football Club and represented Ulster against other provinces. His interest in the game never waned. He consistently watched games on television and would point out different rugby fields."Look, there's Ravenhill. Many's the game I played on that field!" He also loved golf, teeing off with his sons and watching the professionals play on television. His favorites were always the Irish golfers. At his second home in Mammoth Mountain he rejoiced in fishing with his sons, watching his son and grandson ski, and in family picnics at the lakes. Sailing was a part of his life. He and his brothers navigated their boat around Ireland, over to the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland in all kinds of weather. Ed spent many happy hours discussing books and world affairs with his daughter. They went antiquing together, bringing home questionable treasures and "objects d'art." Ed is survived by his wife, Eve, his daughter Christine, his sons Sloan and Glenn, his grandchildren Dana, Anna, Erin, Tory, Shane, Keelin, his two brothers Fred and John Bunting, and the respective families. We will love him and cherish his memory forever. No funeral is planned. A family service will be held privately.

From the nearly 25 years I knew Ed I have ingrained in me the most loving and cherished memories of how kind and gracious this wonderful man was. He and Eve were like family to me. My thoughts and prayers are with Eve and the family.

So very sorry to hear my friend has moved on. Ed & I spent many years together at Kaiser Permanente, mostly having fun in our jobs and developing a great rivalry of wit together. What a great family he had, talked about them all the time. I will miss him. I send my very special regards to Eve, Hope you're doing well!

I only knew Ed through Eve. Their love shone in her eyes.
