Edward Loftin Obituary

LOFTIN, JR. , Edward Hill
Retired US Navy Commander Edward Hill Loftin, Jr., son of Hazel and Lt. Commander Edward H. Loftin, died on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at West Hills Medical Center following a chronic pulmonary illness. He was 84. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Sally Smoot Loftin and is survived by his three sons, Rusty, Scott and Bruce, a daughter, Anne, five grand children, two great-grandchildren, his sister Virginia and brother Gordon. His intelligent, witty, stubborn and generous spirit will live on.
Known by friends and family as "Zee", he was born on February 26, 1923 in Washington, D.C. and graduated from the Naval Academy class of 1945. After serving in the last year of WWII, he was ordered to flight training and received his wings in June of 1947. He later served as a flight instructor, eventually becoming commanding officer of Fighter Squadron Eleven, known as the Red Rippers. Following three years at the Pentagon, he moved to Point Mugu and retired in October 1966. After his Navy career he worked as an engineer for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power where he retired in 1988.
Memorial services will be held at his home in Calabasas at 1:00 p.m. on April 21st. Inurnment will be at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
