Edward Nance Obituary

Nance, Edward K. Jr.,
Edward K. Nance, Jr., respected trial attorney, always the optimist, known for his wit and art of persuasion, and founding partner of Ruston & Nance, died on Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at the age of 74, in Newport Beach. Ed was born on July 29, 1931, in Morris, Illinois, and lived there and South Bend, Indiana, until his family moved to Los Angeles. He was graduated from USC Law School in 1960. He started his career with Moss, Lyon & Dunn; and, thereafter, he and Donald A. Ruston formed a law partnership, Ruston & Nance, practicing insurance defense law. As a result of his reputation for evaluating cases and his neutrality, Ed was frequently asked to act as an arbitrator. Ed was a board member or advisor to numerous professional legal organizations including, American Board of Trial Advocates (Diplomate); Southern California Defense Council (OC Director); and, Member Emeritus and Past President of Legion Lex. During his term as President of Legion Lex he instituted the Inns of Court. A resident of Fullerton, Ed recently relocated to Newport Beach. He will always be remembered for his warm smile; he was entertaining (always had a story to share relating to the topic being discussed); and an inspiration and mentor to many of his peers and friends. Ed is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Bette, whom he met at USC in 1951; his sons, Matthew and Todd, his daughter Courtney Sotelo, and two grandsons. A Memorial Service will be held at: Pacific Club 4110 MacArthur Blvd. Newport Beach, CA 92660 Sunday, September 25, 2005 11:00 A.M. RSVP: [email protected] Memorial donations can be made to: University of Southern California Law School In Memory of Edward K. To Ed's family: I first met Ed 30 years ago this summer when I joined his firm. It's certainly true that he had a story (and opinion) for most every subject. Strangely enough, most of my memories of Ed have little to do with legal cases --- but they are fond memories nevertheless.

Please accept my sincerest condolences on your loss. Ed's memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all he touched.
