Eric David

1927 - 2021

April 29, 1927 - September 25, 2021 Eric David of Long Beach passed away September 25 at age 94 following a hip fracture. Born in Koln, Germany, he survived the Holocaust and emigrated with his parents to the US in 1938. At 17, he joined the US Navy as an electrician's mate during WWII, earning numerous service medals. Eric was a 70-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a longtime member of the National Electrical Contractors Association. He was an electrical contractor for 17 years and later became a full-time faculty member of Long Beach City College, teaching the electrical trade and serving as department head and later as an advisor. He served on the board of directors for the Long Beach Federal School Employees Credit Union, the Sovereign Park Estates Cooperative Apartments homeowners association, and volunteered with the Long Beach Police Department's Senior Police Partners. Preceded in death in 2013 by his wife, Sylvia, Eric is survived by his adult children, Ellen Janssen, Donna Bartley, Wendy Perkins, and Ken David; sons-in-law Bill Janssen and Jay Bartley; grandchildren Heather Janssen Nielsen and Carissa and Jacklyn Perkins; and great-grandson Donald Janssen Nielsen.
