Erwin Tuppan Obituary

Tuppan, Erwin
Erwin was born on August 23, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from Manual Arts High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 through 1946. He then attended USC, graduating in 1951 with a BS in Civil Engineering. While at USC, he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, and lettered in gymnastics from 1948-1950, becoming the 1949 Pacific Coast Conference #1 all-around champion. Upon graduation, he married Helen Daxer at St. Joseph's Church in Los Angeles. He entered the family business, Atlas Ornamental Iron Works, leading the company for 43 years until his son, Chris, assumed the leadership of the company. He served as board member and later, as president of the Steel Fabricators Association for the years 1975 and 1978. He received the Association's Order of the Orchid in 1979. A member of the USC Associates and Cardinal & Gold, he loved USC football and will now have the best seat for watching the games. He passed away September 17, 2005, and is survived by Helen, his wife of 54 years; his children, Karen Cameron (John), Greg (Trena), Eric (Sheree), Chris (Brooke) and his six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Kirk. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 24, at St. Martin of Tours Church, 11967 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, 90049. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Erwin Tuppan to: Lymphoma Research Program (checks can be made payable to: Regents of the University of California (UCLA) and mailed to: Dr. Mary Territo, UCLA Medical Center, CHS 42-121, 10833 Le Conte Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1578) or to the Blind Childrens Center (4120 Marathon Street, Los Angeles, CA 90029).
