Eva Erdos Obituary
December 5, 1925 - February 2, 2024 Eva (also known as Evy) Judith Szecsi was born on December 5, 1925, in Budapest, Hungary, the daughter of Gabor Szecsi, an attorney, and Ada Kramer Szecsi, a psychologist. Her brother Peter was born three years later. Evy had a happy childhood, but in her late teens, war became a reality and the family went through tough times before the war's end in 1945. Evy passed away on February 2, 2024, at age 98.
Evy was planning to be a kindergarten teacher when she met Paul Erdos, one of her father's clients. Paul swept Evy off her feet, and they were married ten days after their meeting.
Paul brought Evy to America, and they settled down in Echo Park. Evy and Paul were overjoyed with the births of their daughters Rosanna, Susanna, and Joanna, who passed away in 2021.
Evy loved being a mother. She became involved in the PTA and Brownies, and she made clothes for the girls and dressed them in matching outfits. She also got involved in politics and served as part of an Honor Guard for Governor Edmund G. "Pat" Brown.
In 1962 the family moved to a home that Paul designed in Los Feliz. Evy again got involved with the PTA at King Junior High. When she decided she wanted a job rather than be a full-time housewife, Evy was hired at Orbach's, a department store on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. She also worked at a few other companies.
In 1988, Paul passed away and Evy moved to a condominium nearby. She was happy to find Hungarians Karl and his wife next door. After her passing in 1990 Evy invited Karl to dinner, and they were together for 24 years, traveling the world until his passing at the age of 101.
Evy belonged to a hiking club and made many friends; all her life she kept in touch with family and friends the world over. She was loved very much and had a happy, long life.
Evy will live the hearts of Rosanna and her husband Richard McColl; Susanna; former son-in-law Ken Schmidgall and his daughter and Evy's granddaughter Wendy Brooks (Michael) and their children Annelise and Sam; step granddaughters Nora (son Landon) and Andrea (partner Andy); and her late cousin Tom's son George Gral and his wife Laurie, as well as brother Peter's stepdaughter Debbie. Peter passed away in 2023. Evy will be missed.
