Fisher Robinson Obituary

ROBINSON, Rev. Fisher J., SVD, Divine Word Missionary, a 40 year resident of Los Angeles, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2007 in Downey. Born in Louisiana, Father Robbie was 78 years of age. He joined the Divine Word Missionaries in 1950, ordained priest in 1958.
He is survived by two sisters Juanita Harang, Houston, Texas and Winnie Mae, Omaha, Nebraska and five nephews and one niece among many other family. Among various positions and duties Fr Robinson served as Principal of Verbum Dei High School (67-80); Chaplain of the Regina's (67-07);Pastor at St Malachy Church (80-89); Vicar of Black Catholics in L.A. (86-2000); a 4th Degree in Knights & Ladies of Peter Claver. The Vigil Service will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in L.A., 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 22; Funeral Mass, Tuesday, October 23, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Evangelist Church reception to follow at St. Bernadette Church Hall; Committal will be Wednesday, October 24th, 2007, 9:30 a.m. at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Riverside. In lieu of flowers please remember Fr. Fisher Robinson Scholarship Fund at VDHS or Divine Word Missionaries. The KPC Ladies Auxilary, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court 121 mourn the passing of Fr. Fisher J. Robinson, and unite in honoring the exemplary life of a great Priest and Knight of our Order.

We fully appreciate the work that Fr. Robinson did and his inspiring leadership among Black Catholics in our Archdiocese. As we reflect upon the high standards he espoused, we are reminded of the many benefits we enjoy as a result of his efforts in the Church and Order.

We unite in offering our condolences to both his Holy family and surviving relatives in their time of mourning. We assure you that the honorable legacy that Fr. Fisher Robinson leaves behind offers both inspiration and challenge to anyone who aspires to emulate this great man. We hope the many reminders that surround you of how he has enriched the lives of all who have had the privilege to be associated with him will soon bring you comfort and relief of sorrow.
