Frances Chaplan Obituary

September 26, 1921 - January 22, 2018 Born to Polish immigrant parents, Frances (Weintrob) Chaplan grew up in Chicago. She met the love of her life, Boyd, at Tuley High. The two traveled across the south during World War II before moving to the paradise that is Los Angeles. An avid reader, Fran enjoyed a long career in the book business, running book departments, buying for a local wholesaler and getting the opportunity to meet authors. Fran had a wry sense of humor and always had something funny and insightful to say, often with a well-placed Yiddish curse. A true feminist, Fran was outspoken about current events and the rights of all people to equal opportunity. She was an active Mah Jongg player, movie-goer, and cook, and was devoted to her extended family. Predeceased by her husband Boyd, Fran was proud of her three children, Mickey, Larry and Debby and five grandchildren-Stuart, Robbie, Trish, Nestor and Marisa. Donations may be made to the City of Hope or to Planned Parenthood.

Fran was one of my favorite calls when I was in the book business. Not only was she funny and clever, but she was generous with her time and advice. She and Boyd welcomed me into the home, and I treasure her memory. I was so sad to read she'd died, but happy to find that she's had the happy life she deserved. Love to her family.

Please accept my sincerest condolences for the loss of your love one. May God's words found at (Isiah 25:8) where it states " He will swallow up death forever...." comfort you.
