Frederick Landis Obituary

LANDIS, Frederick Dane Born Federico Coria, Fred passed away in his sleep early Saturday, August 23rd at his home at the age of 82. Son of Macedonio and Maria, Fred was born in Los Angeles. Following graduation from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, Fred earned his degree in Spanish from USC. In addition, he proudly served his country as a Marine during World War II. He married his beloved Patricia in 1948. They were blessed with three children; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. This year marks their sixtieth wedding anniversary. After working for Bendix Aviation and Lockheed as a machinist, Fred pursued a career in education. After short-term teaching assignments in Artesia and Temple City, Fred became an elementary Spanish specialist for the Arcadia School District. Later, he was a much loved sixth grade teacher at Arcadia's Hugo Reid Elementary School for many years. In retirement, Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, walking the gardens of The Huntington Library, and maintaining with much care his own home and grounds. Fred is survived by his wife, Pat; sister, Anne; three children, Chris, Elaine and Kim; grandchildren, Shannon, Tracy, Ethan, Jeremy, Daniel, Junia and Ben; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Breanna; and nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 30th at 11:00 a.m. in the morning at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills. He will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
