It has been many years since Professor Smith's death and I still think of him often. Not only did he live passionately about what he taught, he made the world a better place. He valued living things and the natural world and wanted to share that insight. I met him in 1993 when I was 23 and consider to him to be a mentor. I now am in a different field but still approach life with the same moral compass that he helped to shape. He is missed greatly after all these years and I am saddened that I never got to tell him how he influenced me and how I felt about him. I am sure he is chewing on Eucalyptus leaves in the great hereafter.

Geoff taught at least one class for the Orange County Master Gardeners since our organization began over ten years ago. I was fortunate to sit in on a few of his lectures. Even after he partially retired, he continued to support our program. He was an outstanding teacher. Not only was he an expert in his field, he knew how to share his knowledge and enthusiasm. His love for the outdoors was contagious. I will miss him greatly and so appreciate all he did for OCMG.

Hi,
I began the Ornamental Horticulture Program in 1975. I was 27, a veteran, and literally picked the program by coin toss. I soon found that a big part of the program was Geoff Smith. His love of native plants and his energy in sharing his knowledge was very influential
in my life. I'm sure that my living in the high desert on ten acres, registered as a wildlife habitat, is partially due to his influence.
I often think of Geoff when I work amongst the native plants, and I will continue to think of him.
I will never forget the field trips.
Geoff is one of the truly great people I have ever known.
