George Stanley Obituary

April 14, 1926 - January 8, 2025 Dr. George Jack Stanley was a tour de force presence of humor, charisma, and love. He was born in Boston, MA on April 14, 1926 and served in WWII as Army medical corp and survived the Battle of the Bulge. He then went to school at USC and became a psychologist in Santa Monica, Ca. where he lived with his first wife Sally and raised his beloved son David. George was a proud member of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) sponsoring over 100 members and mentoring many more. As a clever way to commemorate the year of his sobriety (1962) he promoted "Rule 62: Don't take yourself too damn serious," and as fate would have it, he celebrated exactly 62 years sober before he passed. He found the second love of his life, Sandra Caruso, at age 85, and they greatly enjoyed 10+ years of wedded bliss together attending theatre, Gerofit at the VA, AA meetings, gatherings with friends, and spending time with their dog Wilson. He passed peacefully at home holding Sandra's hand in the very early hours of Wednesday January 8, 2025 at the age of 98. He was a source of profound inspiration, engaging conversation, and loving support, known for handing out fun trinkets to everyone he'd meet. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sally, son David, and survived by his wife Sandra, band of AA brothers, very loyal neighbors and friends, and honorary daughters, sons, and grandchildren who will deeply miss him. A ceremony to honor George will be held on Wednesday February 12, 2025, 10am at the LA National Cemetery Chapel, 950 S. Sepulveda, Los Angeles, Ca. 90049
