Gloria Carlson Obituary

July 27, 1924 - April 15, 2014 Our beloved Glo has passed away to join the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Len. A woman full of energy till the end, blissfully remarking way into her older years that there just were "not enough hours in a day to do everything", Glo was the epitome of joyful optimism and unbridled enthusiasm about life. Born in Hollywood and growing up in Glendale, Glo lived in the L.A. area her whole life. Glo and her loving husband Len built the extremely successful business "Sunset House" in the 50's and 60's. Their world travels together were legendary, their home map of the world pinned to the maximum with their far-flung destinations. To say that Glo was an avid photographer would be an understatement - the walls and every surface of her home, and her chock-filled closets full of albums were testament to her love of photography, of travel, and most importantly, her family. Her love of her garden and nature was lifelong and she filled her home with color and beauty every day of her adult life - in awe of all creatures big and small...so evident in her enthusiastic support of the L.A. Zoo, her care and fascination of the countless numbers of hummingbirds outside her windows, the flowers in her vases every morning, the beautiful needlepoint that she would painstakingly do during her "free" time. Glo was one-of-a-kind....strong, outspoken, and most of all, passionate about her family and life. There will never be another like Glo - she will be greatly missed but she will forever be in our hearts. Glo is survived by her son, Jim Carlson, his wife Corinne, and their two children, Jesse and Alexandra; her daughter, Renee Blom, her husband Don, and their children John Symons, Evan Blom; her step-son David Stuart, his wife Emily, and their daughters Maya and Sophia; her nieces Natasha Cummings and Yvette Olvis; and her nephew William (Billy) Olvis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Gloria's favorite charities: Junior Blind of America, Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association, or The Salvation Army.

Pohls, Carlsons, Lanes - what a group!

Gloria and Len's presence in the Pohl family's lives was always full of laughter and energy. From Glo's constant photographs, which still hang on my wall, to Len calling me each Christmas as Santa Claus, the two of them are forever etched in my memory. It wasn't until "Santa" claimed that the noise in the background was his barking reindeer, that I became suspicious. Two grand people. Love to you both, Rene and Jim.
