Grover Asmus Obituary

Asmus, Col. Grover W., US Army (Ret.) Died October 11, 2003, at his home in Palm Desert, CA. Born January 2, 1926, in North Bergen, NJ. Graduated Randolph-Macon Academy, Front Royal, VA, and attended Drew University in Madison, NJ, before graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1946. Master's Degree in Petroleum Engineering, University of Pittsburg, 1952.
Veteran of Korean and Viet Nam Conflicts. Legion of Merit (3d Oak Leaf Cluster); Bronze Star; Combat Infantryman Badge; Army Distinguished Service Medal. Aide to General William C. Palmer, Deputy U.S. Commander in Chief Europe. Officer of L'Ordere Outremerian, France. Retired from Regular Army in 1972, at Fort MacArthur, CA, after serving as Senior Aide to the General of the Army, Omar Bradley. Following military retirement, he was Manager for Construction Support for the Alyeska Pipeline Services Co. and Director of Project and Marketing Services with Williams Brothers Engineering Co. before heading his own company providing management consulting services and logistics assistance for companies engaged in oil field work in the Far East. He had involvement with many organizations and activities promoting Franco-American relations, was a member of the Randolph-Macon Advisory Council, served two terms as President of the West Point Society of Los Angeles, and was on the Board of Directors of the Donna Reed Foundation. He is survived by his wife, Louise Good Asmus, of Beverly Hills, CA; a daughter, Christina A. Abell, of Peachtree City, GA; and a son, Grover E. Asmus, of Mobile, AL; a niece, Elizabeth Wentworth Colo, of Midway, MA; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Collin Asmus of Jackson, MS, Shelley Collinsworth Asmus of Opelika, AL, Kinion A. Pond of Sewanee, TN, and Jonathan Cyril and Collin Andrew Christian Abell of Peachtree City; three great-grandchildren; faithful friend and godson, Thomas K. Flagg of Frenchtown, NJ; and his devoted nurse, Priscilla A. Butler, of Joshua Tree, CA. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Beverly Hills, CA (Santa Monica Boulevard at Camden), on Monday, October 20, 2003, at 5:00 p.m.
