Harry Luecke Obituary

Harry John Luecke passed away in his sleep on November 11, 2021 in Sherman Oaks (Los Angeles), California at age 74. His tender, loving heart could no longer endure. Harry was the son of the late Harry Joseph Luecke, Jr. and the late Del K. Luecke (McQuade) of St. Louis, MO, brother of the late Mary Frann (Luecke) of Los Angeles, CA and brother-in-law of the late Ric Lee Rogers of New Mexico. Harry is survived by sisters Patricia Sauve (Luecke) of Los Angeles, CA and Jacqueline Rogers (Luecke) of New Mexico, brother-in-law Michael Sauve of Los Angeles, CA and uncle John Hain Luecke of St. Louis, MO.
Harry was born in St. Louis, MO. He was a talented athlete in his youth and always displayed a superior intellect. He graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School in 1965 and St. Louis University in 1969. Harry served as a teacher for a short time in St. Louis and worked for the St. Louis Public Broadcasting Station in the early 1970s. He spent a few years residing in Houston, TX while working in the Food and Beverage industry. He made Los Angeles his permanent home in the 1980s.
Harry was a natural leader whose dynamic personality captivated others. It was not not only his intellectual prowess that could persuade the most reticent of individuals, it was his integrity, honesty and compassion that allowed others to embrace his ideas. He never shied from protecting the defenseless, even in his youth. He could debate like a professional, maintained a deep love of language and literature, classical music, history and all products of human genius and excellence. He missed his calling as a television/film director. He had great insight into production values and cinematic techniques and understood the nuances of film making. Creativity was at the core of his endeavors. Harry was possessed of wonderful wit, charm and sincerity. Compassion was a signature trait and manifest in his career of more than 18 years at the AIDS Health Foundation in Los Angeles. He loved animals and introduced the first pet, a Beagle puppy, into the Luecke household when he was barely 10 years old.
He will be missed by colleagues, friends, family and all who knew and loved him. His life never fell short of honor, respect and personal integrity.
Donations in Harry J. Luecke's name to the AIDS Health Foundation, 6255 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90028, phone 323-860-5200, would be appreciated.

Jackie, please accept my sincere condolences (I´m sorry this is so late) . Harry and I knew each other in the late 60´s thru the mid 70´s. I met him while attending a mutual friend´s wedding and at that time I also got to meet your mom. I called Harry (when our mutual friend visited me and my husband ) in Illinois in the mid 80´s and we had all had a nice conversation. I did send him confolences when your sister passed. He always spoke fondly of you and Mary Francis. I actually think I still have letters he wrote to me in the 70´s. He was quite a writer! I know he influenced my life back then and just wanted you to know the world lost a wonderful man and a very unique individual.
so sorry,
Karen Adelman

There is not a single person in my life that has had as much influence on my character as that of Harry. I will miss him deeply... All our midnight philosophical talks! Most of all... I will miss the laughter!

Harry was the General Manager of Confetti in Houston when I wax Dynamics Manager. He was both intimidating but much loved by everyone. He was fierce and brilliant. A hard taskmaster and a creative genius. Truly a dichotomy in so many ways. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
